So much for Penn State being one of only two schools to have never been hit with major violations.

How do you know any of this is an NCAA violation? Criminal acts...yes.

I didn't read that PDF word for word, but I'm pretty sure Joe Pa testified to the grand jury. I don't think there's any more to it. He did report it. He just reported it to the wrong person (the AD instead of the police). Looks like it just kept going up the line and then got squashed at the top.

Please. Like Joe Pa doesn't know who to report a crime to. He's as guilty as anyone else who knew about this and didn't report it to authorities. They might not be able to prove it enough for charges, but he's guilty.

Hard to believe someone witnesses an old man raping a 10 year old and it just dies. I don't know how that's possible.

As for NCAA violations, I don't know if this qualifies. I know there has to be some bylaws on fiduciary duties, but this is a crime. I cannot believe Penn State has not had a presser or statement yet.

How does that oppose anything I said? I said he knew about it and reported what he knew to the wrong entity. I wasn't defending his lack of action, I pointed out that he clearly did know what was going on and that there doesn't appear to be "more" to the story.

It's nice to have friends in high places, I guess.

After reading through the testimony and seeing there were 8 known victims, you have to believe that through the years, Sandusky probably molested hundreds of boys, given his access to facilities and children. This kind of behavior doesn't just start up late in someone's life.

It will be interesting to see if other victims come forward once this gets a lot of publicity.

I don't know if it is or not, but I have a hard time believing that an assistant coach committing a criminal act and then the AD lying about it would have to be a violation.

That makes it even scarier. I believe there is another victim in the military who is serving overseas so couldn't be subpoenaed.

If they can cover up stuff like this, makes you wonder what else has went on over there.

Joe Pa is every bit complicit in this, he could and should have went straight to the police. Why was Sandusky even allowed to stay on until after the Alamo Bowl? He should have been fired right there in then. Not to mention, there have been recent Penn State players who have went to Sandusky's events. This entire story is disgusting and everyone involved should be fired.

Edit: Found this on a Penn State blog, supposedly one of the boys in the case.

Agreed. Disgusting for everyone involved, including Joe Pa. If this were any other coach, they'd be fired. No question that his legacy will be tarnished.

Honestly, I don't see how it CAN be a violation. It breaks the law, but the rulebook doesn't govern civil stuff. No different than a coach or player getting a DUI.

I agree. And honestly, who cares about NCAA implications. This is far more serious than a loss of a couple scholarships. These people implicated are facing jail time.

As I'm sure you're likely aware, Sandusky's son is the Director of Player Personnel in the Browns front office. Begs the question as to whether he messed with his own kid.

I'm no expert, but I would think if my dad boned me, I wouldn't want to go into any profession later in life that he was involved in. That's just me though.

He retired in 1999, and the cover-up allegedly occurred after a crime in 2002. Which would mean he wasn't an assistant at that time, he just retained access to Penn State's facilities.

I agree with the opinion that NCAA violations are pretty insignificant in the whole scheme of this anyway.

The folks on the PSU board are convinced the assistant who witnessed the rape is Mike McQueary (now on staff and running the show by all reports). His dad was associated with PSU, also, and the age matches the time when he was a graduate assistant.

If that's true, they basically sold out this rape victim, probably to protect the university, Joe Pa and their own jobs. Think about it: why else would you not go immediately to the police when you saw something like that happening?

Before this is over, I think PSU has a house cleaning and Joe Pa is forced to retire by the university. They won't be able to take the heat that's coming from this and maintain people on staff at the time it was basically covered up.

Factor in the lawsuits from victims, and getting rid of anyone who participated in this coverup may be part of litigation at some point.

Joe Pa is gone. Mark it down.

If I am a member of that team, I don't know how I could look my coaching staff in the eye any further. After reading the pdf, I certainly would not want to go back to that shower in the locker room.

Sandusky is an awful human being. He deserves to rot in hell for what he did to those boys. Those who sat by and let it happen deserves whatever punishment they get too.
