Former Defensive Coordinator Jerry Sandusky charged with sexually abusing at least 8 boys (some under 13)--at least 40 counts going back to 1996. In addition Athletic Director Tim Curley had been charged with perjury for failure to report an investigation into the allegations. The PSU vice president of finance and business affairs also charged. Kind of makes tattoo's look insignificant.

I didn't bother to read the links. But if true, Penn State should just take responsibility for the actions so they don't have to fire anyone.

This had been rumored for a number of years, and it appears that PSU and JoePa helped to protect him until he left (to take a job where he could be around children full time).

I doubt there's any way to prove PSU was criminally liable for helping facilitate this guy's activities, but the appearance of impropriety is strong.

In the meantime...

I don't go through the links, but one of the things I picked up on another board was that a grad student caught Sandusky in the locker room messing around with some kids. He went to Paterno who then went to the AD. The AD allegedly did nothing.

My question is why did the grad student go to Paterno and why did he go to the AD? Why are you not calling the cops? Why are you not beating the sh** out of Sandusky on the spot?

That's what the AD is being charged with failure to report about (and then perjury for allegedly lying about it to the grand jury). Unless there's an email trail or something like that I'm not sure how you could prove a word of mouth failure to report case 9 years after the fact, though.

I thought the chain of reporting was more than a little confusing too. One of the articles I read said "the grad student and his father" went to Paterno. So I would guess the student went to dad unsure what to do, and the dad suggested going to JoePa instead of the police for some reason.

Well you know, it isn't like "hey come to Penn State, we have this old dude who will rape you" is a great recruiting pitch. No competitive advantage gained.

In Joe Pas defense, I don't see how he could have any idea about this. The dude was a pervert and was obviously pretty good at hiding it.

I saw that, and have to believe there is more to it. I may be wrong, but I hope not. Why wouldn't the custodian have confronted him? Why wouldn't he have called the cops?

This is all so disturbing I don't want to believe anyone could have known and not reported it.
