I can't fault a kid for changing his mind about where he wants to begin the rest of his life. These are still generally young kids trying to make the first big decision.
As long as a kid isn't being deliberately deceptive and lying to people in order to stay in the spotlight I don't mind if they switch after "verbally committing."

The only way the B1G recruits better, is if they start shelling out some money for big time coaches.

Heres the story on Meyer. I think he did a good thing in what he said. A lot of truth to it.

Meyer is right though. If the bigten wants to compete they need to recruit better and get bettet coaches. Nothing he said was wrong.

I understand other coaches being pissed. He just said that pretty much everyone besides OSU, UM and Nebraska are doing a subpar job. I will give Wisconsin a pass as well as they were doing well but just had a coaching change which hurts.WebFire;1384825 wrote:You can't expect the other coaches to not be a little pissed about it though.
But, he's also right. There is clearly something wrong with the majority of B1G members football wise and people need to at least recognize it and try new tactics.

I don't mind crushing the B1G year in and year out but it would be nice if someone else in the conference would show some life in nonconferece games. Ohio State is the only sign of life in the B1G right now and can't see anyone challenging Urban any time soon.
It's like a 20 game winning MLB pitcher going down to AA minors and showing no mercy to the competion.

If they had great coaches they could get lesser talent and be ok because they coukd develop them bettet. Like fitzgerald, hes not going to get 5star guys or many 4star guys, but he develops guys really well. .whereas illionois had a great recruiter in zook, they have 26 players from southern states, but he blew at developing them.
At iowa ferentz has had a couple good yeats but that's it. Theyve done awful in recruiting AND on the field lately.
Nebraska will always get recruits. And it probably hurts iowa some.

Let's remember, folks, that we were LUCKY to go undefeated this year. Several things happened that had to happen. Obviously the Purdue game comes to mind. Also, Ball fumbling at the goal line (first fumble in foreeeeever), etc. Yes, we were the best team in the Big Ten, but even then, we still had tough games and caught a few breaks. I just don't want us to get overconfident. It's NEVER easy going undefeated. And the target on our backs will be much, MUCH bigger than it's ever been. I don't like the fact that everyone is making 2013 out to be National Championship Or Bust. Give Meyer another year or two, then I might expect an appearance in the NC game. But until then, let's enjoy the improvement and the growth of this already enormous program.
I do like what Urban Meyer is challenging his coaches and players with, though. As Coach Coombs said: "Were you better than Alabama's DB's coaches today?"

HIGH SCHOOL PUNTER UPDATE. While Wednesday was obviously a fantastic day for Urban Meyer and his entire staff, Jim Tressel had to be smiling as well. Though it seemed that Von Bell's commitment to Ohio State would be the story of the day in Ohio, a high school punter managed to steal some of the five-star safety's thunder.Johnny Townsend, an Ohio State commit since June, was expected to fax his NLOI to OSU at a ceremony at his school at noon on Wednesday. The ceremony was pushed back several hours initially, and then ultimately canceled.
Speculation began as to what was going on behind the scenes and, while I won't discuss some of the more "out there" theories, the most common one was that circumstances had changed and his scholarship offer had been pulled. Townsend's father was adamant that was not the case, and his scholarship offer still stood at Ohio State, that the recent indecision was due to personal issues.
Yesterday, Townsend did fax his NLOI, only to Will Muschamp and the Florida Gators. Alex Gleitman reported that, though the situation was evolving, it was possible that his opportunities had changed, once Urban Meyer landed Bell, Clark and Wilson. Later, however, the Orlando Sentinel interviewed Townsend, and reported that his opportunities only changed in the sense that Florida, his dream school, had offered him a scholarship in the eleventh hour.
In the interview, which you can watch here, Townsend talks about his personal history with the University of Florida, his respect for Ohio State and the coaching staff, and why he had to make this decision for himself to decommit and attend his dream school. Surely we can all respect that.
