He had 5 Extra Base hits, including a homer and 7 RBI to go along with 4 BB, which means he had the same amount of RBIs as Kearns and one less home run in 100 less ABs. I can't wait for Interleague Play this season.

Ouch. This is the equivalent of the Reds having Bronson Arroyo. Makes the staff worse...

Sizemore is officially a free agent:

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/7173950/cleveland-indians-decline-grady-sizemore-deal

Sucks that they had to let him go, but I think its the right move. Dude just can't stay healthy, he's a shell of what he was.

For what we gave up, taking a flyer on Lowe is a no brainer. The Tribe has been pretty successful (and has had a lot of practice) at reclamation projects. High upside, low downside. Still need a right hnded bat....that's where the Sizemore $$$ are going to be spent.

Derek Lowe? Are you kidding me? $5 million for that washed up rag? Facepalm. For God sake, spend your teeny, weeny bankroll wisely. Season is 6 months away and I'm already pissed off.

Exactly. Derek Lowe is the reason the Braves watched the playoffs on TV. Ubaldo, Lowe....why don't we give Sam McDowell a contract?

I still like the trade. His BAPIP in Atlanta was 20 points above league average in 2 of his 3 years. That's not good for a groundball pitcher. I have no problem taking a flier on him regressing to the mean on BAPIP and improving his BB/9 a bit. If those things happen his ERA will come down and we'll have a solid #5 guy who will throw 180-200 innings for a modest price.

Aybar wins AL Gold Glove at SS. Thought Druby had a chance at it. He made a decent amount of errors but most of them were on balls the rest of the league doesn't get to.

He has to be a shoe in for the Silver Slugger. Thoughts?

Well, a no-brainer except for the whole "38 years old coming off a horrible season" bit.

^^I'm not sure you find an experienced major league pitcher for $5 million as a free agent who doesn't have some issues. With Carrasco not being able to pitch and the pitching in the farm system ravaged by the Ubaldo deal...I don't have a problem with picking him up. It's only Dolan's money. I have more of a problem with theubaldo deal than this.

Shocked. I thought the only guy who could take it from Druby was Andrus. But it is what it is. The guys in the studio (Omar, Karl Ravech, Kruk, etc) seemed stunned it wasnt Asdrubal. Really the only 1 they seemed to have a legitimate surprise reaction when the winner was announced.

As for Silver Slugger....yeah, dont see how it could be anyone other than Asdrubal. I know Jeter turned it around, but dont know his final stats.

What about JJ Hardy (.269/30/80 and .491 slugging in only 129 games) or Peralta (.299/21/86 and .478 slugging)?

Druby was .273/25/92 and .460 slugging.

I don't think you could really argue with any of those guys.

Oh good call on Hardy. Easy to forget guys in Baltimore. I also forgot Peralta went to SS this year. Brain cramp there.

Those are the 3 frontrunners. Druby had the least amount of protection, and frankly carried that offense the whole year and kept them in 1st/contending until football season. He would be my (probably biased, though Im trying not to be) choice.

I agree Druby was the most important to his team. It's hard for me to overlook Hardy's numbers with as many games as he missed though. I'd put them both above Peralta.

In unrelated news, I found out today that Willingham and Cuddyer are type-A free agents. Does anyone think it would be worth signing one of them, knowing you'd be giving up a 1st round pick? I don't think it would be personally. That isn't the piece that's going to get you to the next level.

It looks like Juan Rivera is going to re-sign with the Dodgers, so I'm not sure what other right handed outfield bats are really out there. We could take a cheap flyer on Xavier Nady, I guess. That seems like the kind of move the Indians would make.

No on the Type-As. If the Tribe were gonna get like the 20th pick or above than I pull the trigger. But unfortunately we arent guaranteed anything. Cant be giving away top 10 picks, even in the MLB unless its for better players or you are closer to winning.

Antonetti feels we are entering a 'window of contention' You really can't expect a draft pick to pay off for at least a few years, so where does that leave us? You can't really stand pat with what we have. If we don't upgrade via free agency that leaves trading as the only other option. We've already raided the farm...so who's expendable that will bring anything of value?

...and Druby wins the Silver Slugger:thumbup:

Touche, but that is my point. Top 10 picks recently seem to be making the Bigs. Pomeranz was a no doubter from the time we drafted him imo. Hes the TYPE of guy you can get in a top 10 pick. Trading them after you draft them is still bad, but at least its better than doing so to get a FA who isnt gonna take you over the top.

Trevor Crowe was outrighted to AAA Columbus to make room for players coming off the 60 day DL. Brantley Carrasco, Tomlin, and Choo.

The Boston Red Sox were given permission to interview Sandy Alomar Jr. for their open managerial position. I would hate to lose Alomar, but what can you do?

In actuality because the Indians are #15 in the 2012 draft, they would only have to give up a second round pick. Only #16 and above have to surrender their #1's

The Tribe is very close to re-signing Grady Sizemore to a 1 year deal. According to Ken Rosenthal on twitter.

Definitely ok with a one year deal as long as it's incentive laden. Still haven't heard specifics yet.

Hoping we didnt spend a lot on Grady. But if its incentive and relatively cheap, Im cool with it.
