Ever heard of "its the thought that counts"? That is true in most cases of chivalry and etiquette.

You don't open the door for a date because you think she will really have a problem opening that door, you do so because it is polite and proper "etiquette".

You don't walk closer to the road because you truly think it makes the woman safe, you do it for the "thought that counts" idea.

Man I wish people actually had to take etiquette classes in high school, or at least had parents that taught them.
