If you ask me, the MVP of the NFL so far this season is NOT Aaron Rodgers. It's NOT Tom Brady. It's NOT Calvin Johnson or Adrian Peterson. It's Peyton Manning. Who else has proven to be more valuable to his team than Peyton Manning? Nobody.

If I really had to vote, though, it'd take lots of convincing not to go with Calvin Johnson.

What the OP was trying to say is correct. No player is more valuable to his team than Manning. This season is conclusive proof.

Rodgers is the runaway MVP to this point in the season.

Take Welker away from Brady, and the Pats are just fine. Take Johnson (2 TD's in every game thus far) away from Stafford, and the Lions are under .500, IMO.

You can't downplay what Manning means to the Colts, even though they put up a few points against a terrible team.

I can absolutely downplay it....they were up what 21 or 24-0? It can be downplayed that game! Sounds like the Bengals fans crying because they had a 17-7 lead at half that they got with their backup QB.....then lost in the 2nd half. A lot more to football than offense.


Yes, Peyton is critical to the Colts winning games. Saying he is the MVP is just stupid....I get the point on his importance.

Peyton Manning as MVP was clearly tongue in cheek correct? I92 and Auto, you guys cant actually think anyone would vote for him right?

If anything this season shows he should have won the last 10 MVP awards though. No way Manning loses to the Chiefs, so it doesnt matter what the defense does, he wins that game. Colts are probably sitting at 4-1 right now with Peyton.

As for the Real MVP:
Rodgers followed by Calvin Johnson. Johnson if he continues this pace will end up #1 imo though.

Agree with all of this. Calvin's current pace is like 1300 yards and 32 TDs. Obviously impossible TD pace, but if he ends up with 1300+ yards and 20 TDs (1 TD per game the rest of the year) and the Lions make the playoffs (playoffs! Don't talk about the playoffs), how do you not give it to that guy?

Rodgers. If he keeps this pace up, there's no reason why not. Even if Calvin Johnson keeps his pace up, it's still got to go to Rodgers.

If they both keep it up, they'll really use the two Packers v. Lions games to determine who it'd be. But, I don't see Rodgers losing it...if he were to keep doing what he is doing.

The Colts went 10-6 last year (won their division) with a "healthy" Peyton. They also lost in the Wild Card game. He didn't have the best season (comparing it with his previous seasons), but still a nice season. The Colts are on a downward spiral. They have an aging QB, defense, and really not a whole lot of offensive threats. Their division is arguably the worst division in the NFL -- I am not sold on the Jaguars, Titans, or Texans really doing much of anything, anytime soon. I said it the first report of Peyton having his first neck surgery this year...his season is done (said before it was announced) and I could see him being done for his career (or at least should highly consider his health over trying to come back).

It does matter what the defense does...you cannot ignore having a huge lead on the Chiefs and blowing it...how does the offense get blamed?

1300 yards and 20 TDs
versus
5,500 yards, 45 TDs, 6 INTs (Rodgers' pace)

Would be, IMO, a tough choice and I'd probably go with Rodgers.

What would hurt Rodgers is if Brady and Brees keep up their yards per game pace as well. Obviously 5,500 is insane but if all three of those guys break Marino's record it diminishes the accomplishment a bit.

Totally agree with this post! (except I still have Calvin Johnson ahead of Rodgers) And yes, my Opening Post was entirely tongue-in-cheek about Peyton Manning.

Agreed. Rodgers has 3-4 stud wide receivers/tight ends that he can throw to along with 2 good running backs. If you take any one of them away, Aaron Rodgers (or any top-5 quarterback) would be just fine and produce similar statistics. However, if you take Calvin Johnson away from the Lions' offense, they fall apart.

Id take Rodgers then CJ as well. CJ might not have the best stats at WR, but hes more valuable than any other Wr in the league. Welker has the best stats, but Brady has proved he can do that with any Wr damn near

No one is blaming the offense. Just saying, no matter WHAT the defense does, Peyton wins that game. He puts up 40 if he has too.

In all honesty, I dont think MegaTron is going to get 2 TDs a game (32). But I could see him reeling in 25 (max). Id say he gets like 1400 yrds and 23 TDs this year. If they win the division, MVP is his.

In reality Joseph Addai is not that good of a running back. How many runs of 20+ yards has he had in his career? TWO! That's right. Only two. They've never had a running game to set up their passing attack. Sure, any top level QB can manage an offense, look at defenses, pick the right play, and execute (Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, etc.), but Peyton Manning IS the Colts' offense. Take him away, and we're starting to see what was really there. I think Peyton Manning more than any other QB in history IS the offensive playbook.

I think there is no doubt that Manning has been the most valuable player just about since he joined the NFL, but obviously another part of the MVP award is performance and numbers... and that will always go up and down.

You are assuming it wouldnt happen, I am assuming it would. Given Peytons regular season record, Id say my proof is better than yours. 7 years of 12+ wins. Already 0-5 without him. What have they averaged the last 9 years (when the run started)? Probably about 12.something wins in the regular season? I would guess its over 12 wins. They are going to be the reverse of that. What other QB in this league is worth 9 wins the last 9 years?
