Didn't VZW make that call? I thought Moto will allow them to be unlocked but it was up to the carrier to allow it.sherm03;945737 wrote:I've reported it. Clearly they don't see it as being that big of an issue.

It's a combination of both. Motorola has said they will unlock the bootloaders in the future, but have never really expanded on that since that announcement.Jawbreaker;945741 wrote:Didn't VZW make that call? I thought Moto will allow them to be unlocked but it was up to the carrier to allow it.

I have seen some articles about it being VZW's call but I don't think we will know for sure until the phone is released world wide.sherm03;945744 wrote:It's a combination of both. So HTC announced the Rezound a dual1.5 720 pixel display beast with beats audio. It is to be released on nov 14th and the Nexus looks like it may not be released until after black friday! wtf.
Sherm has there been an official date on the rzr? What the review of the rzr compared to the bionic?

Comparision of all three. The Rezound would be better if it wasn't 2x as thick as the razor with a smaller battery.

Compared to the Bionic, the RAZR is definitely the better device.OneBuckeye;957352 wrote:http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19736_7-57318076-251/htc-rezound-vs-motorola-droid-razr-vs-samsung-galaxy-nexus/

As far as the Rezound, I haven't seen one yet. But a co-worker of mine in New York saw it yesterday and said it's a nice phone. But it seems very bulky, and the Super AMOLED screen on the RAZR is much more appealing than the Rezound. So the Rezound will have the better processor, but the RAZR will look and feel better, and have better battery life.

Rezound looks pretty sweet and beats audio is pretty awesome. Might get that over the Razr. Or not now that Sherm has spoken
.
OneBuckeye I think the release date will be on Nov 10 for the Razr. I got an email about preorders for it saying it would ship on Nov 10th.

Agree I am not considering the rezound. Good concept, but the battery and screen and size make it a no deal for me. I think I want the Nexus, but I will probably go with the Razr becasue of release dates, as long as ICS gets on it asap and they unlock the bootloader...sherm03;957391 wrote:Compared to the Bionic, the RAZR is definitely the better device.

Moto has said that the RAZR will get ICS "early 2012." And there has been no word on the Bootloader.OneBuckeye;957418 wrote:Agree I am not considering the rezound. The biggest thing that the RAZR had going against it for me was that the original RAZR was literally one of the WORST devices ever. I had one, and so did a number of my friends, and I can't tell you how many complaints we all had re: dropped calls. The antenna (internal) on that device was HORRENDOUS.

The original RAZR was very hit or miss. But I think it highlights how far Motorola has come. That device was built very well, but the software was absolute garbage. By utilizing Android, Motorola has successfully fixed the problems they had in the past.Scarlet_Buckeye;957450 wrote:The biggest thing that the RAZR had going against it for me was that the original RAZR was literally one of the WORST devices ever. I have had store reps tell me they sell Motorola Android phones BECAUSE they have better signal strength than others. I haven't noticed any difference with that on the RAZR.

I will look at the Rezound as well. Not sure if I'm going to wait until (at least) Black Friday to see the Nexus.
Don't care if the Rezound is a few mm thicker - do we really need phones that can give us paper cuts? "Thin" is the most useless, non-value added feature out there. Credit to Apple for differentiating on something almost entirely meaningless.

If the HTC phone turns out to be even spec wise, I will probably go with it....and ebay the headphones to recoup some of the money.

Yeah, I'm not sure why people were bashing this phone - it has a 720p LCD screen, which I'm not sure how it will compare but the RAZR and Nexus both have pentile displays, so not as great as they are being made out to be. Most complaints I've seen among the hardcore users is that HTC phone quality isn't very good, and I think call quality is still my #1 priority (why I'm probably leaning toward the RAZR, being Moto).wes_mantooth;957514 wrote:If the HTC phone turns out to be even spec wise, I will probably go with it....and ebay the headphones to recoup some of the money.

Beats audio might be nice, though I'm not sure how much value it really adds. I have a nice set of BT earbuds, but I say good luck getting hardly any cash for those on EBAY (those headphones will have a retail value probably between $30-$60).

^ The battery is a big concern HTC is notorious for bad battery life and it has the smallest batter of the 3. I want to see the LCD vs OLED side by side, but from what i've read teh OLED is where its at. Won't it also help with battery life?

This is how I feel as well. Also HTC has put on some great phones from what I've heard. My biggest thing I hate about the RAZR is not being able to remove the battery. Also I never had a RAZR when they first came out but I thought they were dumb back then and made fun of all my friends who had them(didn't help all they ever did was complain about them).gut;957468 wrote:I will look at the Rezound as well. We'll see. For my money, I only need to get 16-18 hours out of a battery, basically a day and charge overnight. For the average user it may be a bigger deal, but I'm pretty confident in the developer community getting a lot more out of that battery than stock (underclocking alone can yield 30-50% more battery life).wes_mantooth;957622 wrote:I had the launch super amoled incredible.....the battery life is ****. Probably what I will do is compare the RAZR and Rezound and pick one. Then if I'm not completely satisfied I'll return within the 14 days and grab the Nexus. The one thing the Nexus has going for it is the camera, but I'm pretty confident the RAZR and Rezound will be unlocked so the "developer" Nexus loses most of it's appeal soon enough.

I don't see the VZW RAZR being unlocked unless Moto hands over the keys.gut;957747 wrote:We'll see. And I believe they will. Now, VZW has some say but Google will have some influence as well (seeing as they are buying Moto Mobility). With the RAZR being an iconic brand for Moto, I expect them to give it every chance to succeed, which means a strong developer community and extended end-of-life => i.e. unlocked.Jawbreaker;957812 wrote:I don't see the VZW RAZR being unlocked unless Moto hands over the keys.

That goes both ways. VZW can have as much, if not more, influence than Google on what the end product will look like and how it will function. If it is going on their network, they end up calling the shots and there isn't much Motorola can do about that. They are in the business to sell phones and VZW is the means to the end. Also, VZW sees unlocked == unsecured, or at least that is what their PR says.gut;957871 wrote:And I believe they will. But besides having questionable legal justification to do so, the Sammie and HTC phones have been far easier to unlock. The Nexus will be unlocked. I'm not sure VZW can favor an OEM in such manner, honestly.Jawbreaker;957957 wrote:That goes both ways. Don't know about the legal part of it but they have favored Moto more than any other manufacturer. I don't see why they should. I think they have made a great deal off the original droid and other Motorola products.gut;957994 wrote:But besides having questionable legal justification to do so, the Sammie and HTC phones have been far easier to unlock. I don't see them putting much advertising behind the Nexus and very little behind the new HTC phone. They are going to go balls in for the RAZR.
