It's very possible. After seeing the iPhone 4S sport an 8mp, it's possible they want to change that. But I don't think so. People make such a big deal out of the number of mp a camera has, but there's way more to it than that. The iPhones have always had 5mp cameras, but usually take much better pictures than a lot of phones with 8mp cameras. So it's possible that they are changing that...but I doubt it.Scarlet_Buckeye;925212 wrote:What do you think the chances of swopping out the 5 Megapixel camera for an 8 are? If they did that, I might say the Nexus Prime is the leader for me then.

I hope so, and I also wouldn't be surprised if they did. When you stack this one up against the Bionic and iPhone 4S... and everything looks the same except that... kinda makes you wonder.sherm03;925226 wrote:It's very possible. I don't know if those spec leaks from the other day are right. I find it odd they would use a 5mp sensor when most high end Samsung phones use an 8mp sensor. If they are releasing the phone later this month or early next month, I don't see them making a change like that now. Isn't it too late for something like that?

I would suspect the picture to picture time to be something they would tweak (if they tweak anythign on the camera) as apple touted that number v the bionic in the presenation. As well as the quality of the camera components. Other than that it could definately be software issues on google's end with getting 4.0 working. Who knows.

It's not that odd. It's actually very common for the Nexus phones to be behind in certain specs. These phones are created just to show off the software. THAT is supposed to be the biggest attraction for the device. Look at the Nexus S. It was supposed to be the top of the line phone when it launched as the first device with Gingerbread. It also sported a 5mp camera. Look at the Xoom...first tablet with Honeycomb...5mp camera.Jawbreaker;925241 wrote:I don't know if those spec leaks from the other day are right. The idea behind these Google Experience devices is all about the software. The focus isn't supposed to be on the other specs.

I understand all that. It is by Google's definition and reference device. However, the Nexus S has a 5MP sensor just like the galaxy S. I would think they would do the same thing with the new Nexus....at least giving it the same size sensor as the Galaxy S II.sherm03;925266 wrote:It's not that odd. It's also pretty possible that Samsung had to pay too much to get to the specs that Google required (i.e. processor, display, memory, RAM) and had to cut back somewhere. The camera will ALWAYS be the first place a manufacturer will look to cut costs.Jawbreaker;925275 wrote:I understand all that. It is by Google's definition and reference device. Those specs are rumored to be wrong. The camera supposedly will be 8mp while also having an improved sensor. Basically it will be top-end in everything and overall a step above evryjing else.

Samsung has postponed the launch of its Nexus Prime smartphone as a mark of respect to Steve Jobs.
The company said it would be the wrong time to introduce the device while the world was still paying tribute to the Apple co-founder, who died last week.
It had planned to unveil the Nexus Prime in San Diego on 11 October.
Samsung enjoys a close relationship with Apple, as one of its component suppliers. However, the firms are also suing each other for patent violations.
Courts in 10 countries have been asked to adjudicate an apparently tit-for-tat series of intellectual property claims.
Each company has accused the other of using their patented technology, without paying to license it.
In addition Apple has also accused Samsung of copying the overall look and feel of its iPad tablet, in its Galaxy Tab 10.1.
To date, the US company has fared best in court:
- The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is currently banned from sale in Germany.
- A ban on sales of Samsung smartphones is due to come into effect in the Netherlands in October.
A ruling is expected this week in the Australian row and is also due shortly in the US where Apple is suing Samsung.
- Samsung has postponed its tablet launch plans in Australia while its legal battle there is ongoing.
Prime candidate
Samsung's Nexus Prime is the latest in a series of smartphones produced by the Korean company, running Google's Android operating system.
It will be the first commercially available device to run the new version of Android known as Ice Cream Sandwich.
The open-source platform has proved hugely successful for Samsung, which is now second only to Apple in the global smartphone race.
According to data from Nielsen, in August 2011, Apple held 19.25 of the market, while Samsung handsets accounted for 16.2%.
Despite the fierce competition, both on the high street and in the courts, Samsung makes a great deal of money from Apple, supplying parts for many of its devices, including screens for its smartphones and tablets.
The two companies are said to have agreed a components deal in February worth $7.8bn (£5bn).

Samsung on Thursday sent out invitations to a press conference in Hong Kong where it is expected to unveil its Galaxy Nexus smartphone alongside Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The South Korea-based electronics giant has not made direct reference to the new smartphone, however a recent teaser video published by the vendor left little doubt that the third-generation Nexus smartphone would be the star of the show. Samsung was initially supposed to unveil the device at its Unpacked event during the CTIA Enterprise & Applications conference in San Diego, however the company canceled the event due to Apple co-Founder Steve Jobs’s untimely passing, which occurred just one week earlier. BGR has issued numerous exclusive reports regarding the Galaxy Nexus, the most recent of which painted a nearly complete picture of the phone’s key specs. Samsung’s event kicks off at 10:00 a.m. local time in Hong Kong, or 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time on October 18th.

Definitely has nothing to do with Apple, or Jobs, or changing of any specs. Has everything to do with Samsung trying keep the spotlight on them.Jawbreaker wrote:I guess Google cares more about Steve Jobs than Motorola.

So this is why they moved it back. Tell me more about this razor, now I have to make another decision. We just confirmed some of the specifications for the upcoming Motorola DROID device (DROID HD / DROID RAZR / Spyder) that Verizon Wireless and Motorola are rumored to be announcing next week, and they are monster. Here is what we have:The teaser video for this phone appears to be a direct shot at the iPhone — faster, thinner, smarter, stronger — and with the specifications above and rumored physical attributes like a case molded from Kevlar, a Gorilla Glass display and a splash-resistant coating, it looks like we’re in for quite an event next Tuesday.
- Thinner and “faster than the iPhone 4S” according to our source
- 1GB of RAM — double the iPhone 4 and 4S
- 1.2GHz dual-core processor
- 4G LTE (thinnest LTE phone to date)
- 4.3-inch display
