its comes down to this. OWS people dont like authority in any form. whether it be the police, law makers, their boss, strangers, and probably their parents.

Watching that video again, they don't make pepper spray like they used to - almost no reaction when they sprayed it. Also, note the relative difficulty cops have separating them, still, when you'd expect their resistance to be considerably lower dealing with the physical reactions of pepper spray (coughing, wiping eyes, etc...).
Guessing they chose to use pepper spray for precisely that reason, expecting it to be easier to remove them given their arms were interlocked (which would reduce the risk of injury to the protestors having to otherwise exert more force to break them apart). I'd bet money the public outcry is worse if cops have to go all Office LBer on them and a protestor ends up with a broken arm or dislocated shoulder.

I've always had the opinion that people at protests such as these (tree huggers and animal rights, etc) tend to be more passionate about the feelings of self-worth and having something to attach meaning to then actual passion for the cause. The core leaders/organizers are probably legitimately passionate, but the masses they recruit tend to be impressionable people who become passionate protestors as they get swept up in the moment.Glory Days;984258 wrote:its comes down to this. Precisely.queencitybuckeye;984161 wrote:Officer: "You're under arrest. Please stand and put your hands behind your back".
OWS dirtbag: No movement
OWSD has resisted arrest and a reasonable amount of force may be used to obtain compliance with a lawful order.

Except the police didn't say they were under arrest and never actually arrested a lot of people involved. This was assault.queencitybuckeye;984161 wrote:Officer: "You're under arrest. Please stand and put your hands behind your back".

Not necessarily. But don't you think it would be important to have a group occupying the lawns of actual politicians.I Wear Pants;984121 wrote:So every protest must happen in DC?
That limits protesting to people who live or can travel to DC.

Ron Paul did it well I think. He was recently heckled and let them finish and then said "do you feel better?".

He handled that well and ended up getting an applause from what even seemed like many of the hecklers. Nicely handled, it would seem.

"Americans, like human beings everywhere, believe many things that are obviously untrue...Their most destructive untruth is that it is very easy for any American to make money. They will not acknowledge how in fact hard money is to come by, and, therefore, those who have no money blame and blame and blame themselves. This inward blame has been a treasure for the rich and powerful, who have had to do less for their poor, publicly and privately, than any other ruling class since, say, Napoleonic times.
Many novelties have come from America. The most startling of these, a thing without precedent, is a mass of undignified poor. They do not love one another because they do not love themselves."

I'm trying to wrap my brain around that phrase about the rich, "who have had to do less for their poor" etc etc. How do we get them to "have to do more" beyond footing the large portion of the federal tax liability for the 47% who pay no federal income taxes?I Wear Pants;991129 wrote:"Americans, like human beings everywhere, believe many things that are obviously untrue...Their most destructive untruth is that it is very easy for any American to make money. The poor in this country have access to many multitudes of modern-day conveniences in this country, not to mention the basic necessities of life (wish I had time to link the chart from Heritage that majorspark posted a few weeks ago). I'm trying to figure out how jamming the rich more will translate into a better quality of life for our nation's poor.
Unless you're advocating broadening the tax base (i.e., taxing the poor), to motivate and stir up people's inner drive to make it, as a means of reducing income inequality, then I don't see any solutions in a rich vs. poor argument.

Lol, so taxing the poor is now just "motivating and stirring up poeople's inner drive to make it"?
If you listen to conservatives anyone who is poor has gotten to that point because they are a lazy, no talent, incompetent, malcontent who couldn't do anything right. Because this is America and there is no such thing as a poor person.

For the overwhelming majority of poor people, the number one factor of why they're that way is a series of bad personal decisions. As much as some wish to make things more complicated than that, it is not.I Wear Pants;991796 wrote:Lol, so taxing the poor is now just "motivating and stirring up poeople's inner drive to make it"?

If you listen to liberals anyone who is rich has gotten to that point because they inherited it, were greedy, selfish, corrupt who knew how to manipulate the system.I Wear Pants;991796 wrote:If you listen to conservatives anyone who is poor has gotten to that point because they are a lazy, no talent, incompetent, malcontent who couldn't do anything right.
Rich/poor its all relevent. Once one can take care of all the basic needs for himself or his family after that it is keeping up the Joneses.I Wear Pants;991796 wrote:Because this is America and there is no such thing as a poor person.
In America, those that find themselves in difficult finacial straits get assistance through public and private means far above their basic needs in life. The majority of the world considers them rich. Many risk their lives everyday for a chance to get into the USA. Drowning in the sea, freezing to death in the landing gear of a plane, dying of thirst in the desert, packed body to body in the back of a freight truck in 100 degree heat...I could go on and on. To live on the dolls? No. To do the work many Americans find beneath them? Yes.
