I bet a certain coach in NC wishes he recruited him.
He did "recruit" him. He even referred to him as the past PG prospect since Jason Kidd. He didn't offer him for a variety of reasons, mainly Brian Clifton, Wall's AAU coach. Clifton hates Roy, which really made it difficult to recruit Wall since Clifton was such an integral part of Wall's life.
I'm sure Roy could have somehow got around that, but he realized in addition to that road block, Wall was most likely one-and-done. Getting Drew II a year of starting experience puts the team in much better position for next season, and a possible title run. I also think that Roy was worried about trouble with Clifton, who has already lead to a problem this season for Wall. I hope that's the last we hear of Mr. Clifton though.
As a Carolina fan, I would have loved to see Wall in Chapel Hill. He's a great player and he seems like he's a pretty good kid. He made a few mistakes in the past, but he seems to be focused and doing the things that he needs to be doing to be successful. He likely would have made Carolina a serious title contender this year, but instead he'll be doing that for UK. I hope he has a great year and a great NBA career, but like I posted last night, it's hard to watch him and not wish he had stayed close to home to wear a lighter shade of blue.
All of that said, I trust Roy's decision to not offer. He knows what is best for the Carolina program, and he's obviously doing something right.
