agreed, but how is PTI "great"? a bald guy and a black guy jousting back and forth offering their (trying to be funny) opinions on various topics---including the LLWS!!!....to each his own, pburg

It's not supposed to be great tv. It is what it is. A show with sports topics. To me I would much rather watch it then soccer, tennis, golf, or the LLWS. I mean I would take football or basketball over it but to each their own.

I never said it was "great TV", I was merely asking Laley why he thought it was great...next?

I could see why people don't find Tony and Mike funny. But I find them hilarious. PTI is a permanent fixture on my DVR. I don't miss it.

NBC sucks at sports, and has since they essentially quit trying in the late 90's. It's going to take a miracle for that network not to be complete shit

For a while they would refuse to put the score on the screen at all times. So irritating. I think they finally fixed that with ND a couple of years ago.

I really think that they will do just that. NBC has a pretty classy presentation, and if they use that model and forget the "cool and overly flashy" horseshit style coming from ESPN, I know a ton of people who will want to watch that instead.

They need to get a deal with a BCS conference though (Big XII??), and buy some bowl game rights. Using NBC and NCS Sports, they can support an entire conference's worth of games when it's in-conference play:

NBC
12:00 - Conference game #2
3:30 - Notre Dame vs. _____
8:00 - Conference game #5

NBC Sports Network

12:00 - Conference game #1
3:30 - Conference game #3
7:00 - Conference game #4

NBC's network already was dealt a huge blow though when Fox swept in and outbid them on UFC. UFC could have been a year-round flagship for them to build revenue and new viewer base with. Now they are stuck with MLS and NHL, and while I have nothing against those leagues, they don't bring in as many average "hmm wonder what this is" viewers.

MLS, NHL, plus the Olympics (massive ratings for a month every other year) and Notre Dame football. There is no doubt that they need to expand, but they have a nice set of things to work with initially. I hate UFC, but it'd have been nice.

I used to never miss the LLWS, until ESPN has marketed it and shoved it down our throats.

So you get good revenue for ad time 1 month every 2 years and 8-10 Saturdays per fall? That's not a competitor with ESPN. They have no flagship yet. Nothing constant to steal your average sports viewer 365 days per year.

NBC needs to find a way to regain their coverage of the NBA. Their theme song for the NBA alone should win them the contract when the NBA needs a new tv contract.

I never said you said it was great tv. I was simply saying it is what it is and nothing more. You're obviously not into shows that have sports topics and that is fine. What did you mean by next?

you referenced great, and I was just responding to it...and why would you assume I don't like shows with sports topics just because I don't particularly like these two "shows"? that's a pretty shallow assumption, don't ya' think?

Yeah, I agree Wilbon is the show. I like Tony too but it's not as good of a show when its Tony and a sub. As for Le Bastard, you probably won't see him on PTI much anymore, as he will have his own show on ESPN2 starting Sept. 12th.

I disagree. There are a lot of people out there tired of ESPN and ready for change. NBC Sports could be mediocre and I think people will at least appreciate the competition.

Speaking of competition, NBC Sports will be good in the sense that it will require ESPN to step up their game. Without someone to compete with, they grew fat and lazy. With a serious competitor in the mix, they will have to be more cautious as to what BS to throw out there.

Yes, ESPN, don't show kids playing a game they love for the joy of playing. I want to see more dirt on all the different college football teams. Make up some more allegations against OSU and LSU or somebody....keep this "sports" stuff off the air.

No need to take it off the air, just put it on ESPN Classic. That way those who want to watch kids through 60 mph "heaters" have the opportunity to. And then everybody else who wants to watch regular scheduled programming can.

ESPN Classic isn't on every cable company's primary package.

Agreed.

W/ how NBC shelled out 2 billion to the NHL (Their main sport) they want to compete with ESPN. They've also been wanting to get the World Cup for a while now as well.
