Boardman and Fitch left the SVC to play public schools and soften up their schedule. Has that made their programs better? Fitch and Boardman both had better programs year in and year out when they were in the SVC and played better opponents week in and week out.

JFK "plays up" in many games each year. Hubbard, Howland, University School, Elyria Catholic, Wheeling Central Catholic, Clairton (PA), and others. And JFK would welcome other chances to "play up" from schools where the disparity isn't as great such as Lakeview, Niles, etc. These teams offer a competitive match up. We aren't asking for games vs Matthews, Southington, etc. and we're not asking for games against Harding, Mooney, Ursuline etc. Makes alot of sense to me to play games within a window of competition that is reasonable, some a bit better and maybe some a little bit worse varying from year to year, but no huge disparity. And JFK being in a league with local public schools would help JFK, but it would also help the local public schools...just like Delphos St John helps other teams in the vaunted MAC conference like Delphos Jefferson, Maria Stein Marion Local, Coldwater, St Henry, etc.

It's not that they couldn't be competive at times, they could, but hardly on a consistent basis. The last thing on the administrations list would to be the whipping boy for the largest schools in the area.

Anything to make scheduling easier and less traveling. Everyone in this area is always clamoring for more local matchups. Did you SEE how many people were there for Mooney-Poland? Every school involved would see huge increases in revenue from the gate alone.

I know it isn't Youngstown area, but I'd like to see Big Red where you have Poland/Liberty. I respect Liberty's program, but I think they would have a tough time in that league in most years. They had a great team for 2 years (about 4-5 years ago), and they beat Ursuline in the playoffs and gave Mooney a great battle, I just don't think they could compete with all of those teams in most years.

Of course the kids would want to play those games. Of course their balls are bigger than their brains at that age too. There's a reason the voting age is 18 ya know

Just as example of my point is the 2008 season. Liberty finished with Howland, Hubbard and Girard. Played Howland really tough but lost both starting tackles in that game. Then lost to Hubbard, and finished with a loss in Girard. They entered that stretch undefeated and finished 7-3 and hosted a play-off game. Lost to Chagrin Falls at home, a game we should easily have won were our line up to snuff.

Hell even Fitz Toussaint couldn't manage to pull Liberty out of any of those game and he was the TCPOY.

Its almost laughable to sit back and read what the parochials try to dictate what is best for publics !! Believe me, an awful lot of ADULTS have taken into consideration WHO they should be in a league with -- school administrators , coaches, ADs, elected school board members and members of the comunity including the parents. If you don't like it, please note once again that as parents, THEY have decided what the BEST INTERESTS are of their public school kids.

A parochial league makes alot of sense -- if you have the guts to do it. But , its obvious thats not the case. You would have to beat on each other, just as the publics do with each other and that leaves winners & LOSERS. No guts, no glory.

The only thing embarrassing here is to see a attempt on an internet board to influence the addition of some parochial schools into a public school league. That simply won't happen, no matter how manys ways you " package" it, complain, campaign or otherwise bitch. Those parents who elected to send their kids to a parochial as the best interests of their kids should back off as public school parents have made a decision that being in a league with parochial schools is NOT in the BEST INTERESTS of their kids.

I know a lot of parents of kids in Boardman and Fitch who would disgree with that statement. However, I guess getting back from athletic events at 11 on a school is in the best interest of the kids.

Which sport has Boardman and Fitch improved in since leaving the SVC for the Fed? Their football certainly is nowhere near where it was 15-20 years ago. Boardman's girls basketball has been great in both leagues.

It's about trying to create a local league. Ursuline and Mooney will do just fine without one, but we just miss out on a lot of great games. Some of the SVC games in the 80's and 90's were fun to watch. It's the kids from all of the schools involved who miss out on the local rivalries. After talking to several Boardman people at the Boardman/Mooney game, they talked about how they missed they missed the SVC.

I agree with the parochial league idea. Since you all think NO one will schedule you, play one another!! I am also one that strongly said NO!! to the seperate playoffs suggestion. Rgular season, play one another.

While I love the suggestion of Ursuline and Mooney joining a local league, it likely won't happen. As much as Paladin is trying to stir the pot and get the Mooney posters riled up, he does make a lot of sense. It is very clear that most public schools don't want to play the parochials. In some cases it doesn't make sense to an outsider (read Niles-JFK), but that is what they've chosen to do. I would love to see Poland play Mooney on a regular basis, but it's not going to happen. I also believe Brungard has every right to feel the way he does. However, if Poland had open enrollment I would not agree with him.
I also believe JFK avoiding Ursuline (and they've avoided a lot of teams over the years) is equally as bad. I have to agree with Paladin and feel that each school is in a different situation and must make decisions that would benefit them. Yes, kids would love to see these games. These kids would also love for beer to be allowed at school lunches.

At least the Youngstown area public schools like South Range and Poland can go back and polish their Patty-Cake Conference Champion trophies.

They've got no problem playing Mooney in sports THEY KNOW they can win, but when it comes to football its different. Grow a pair.
