The meat of a team is built in rounds 3-5.

In recent memory..... here are some guys drafted in the third round:

Ya never know who you can get..and this does not even mention guys drafted AFTEr the third round that became stars.

Granted..I dont trust the bungles to do well with a 3rd round pick...but at least there is a chanc.e

Palmer threw 2 fewer Int's than Drew Brees and 3 more than Peyton Manning. He was hardly the "main" reason why the Bengals stunk. His numbers were pretty solid all around last year.
And Mike Brown crying about someone not "honoring" their contract in the NFL where NFL owners have fought tooth and nail to have the right to just waive players whenever they want without paying them.

Tough situation, but it had to be tough going to work in that "Looney Bin" daily. The knuckleheads Palmer had to work with , while talented, have been some of the biggest idiots in the history of professional sports. Always was told if you did not enjoy going to work... stop doing what you are doing, and find another job. He probably figure the endless line of idiots would continue. (Don't like to see people walk away from a contract though)

Coach will probably get a contract extension out of this somehow... lol

Another guy posts the following on the Cincinnati Enquirer blog whenever a Bengals/Mike Brown article pops up. I think it highlights the problem with the Bengals franchise in ernest:

Mike Brown's lack of success:

Since Brown became owner in August 1991, the team has had only 2 winning seasons out of 20 and has a winning percentage of 36.1 % (115-204-1) in the regular season and 00.0 % (0-2) in the playoffs. By contrast, the lowly Detroit Lions had a winning percentage of 37.8% (121-199).

In 2008, the Bengals set a record for the most games needed under one specific owner to attain 100 wins (288 games over 16+ years).

In 2010, the team set a record for the least games needed to lose 200 (both considering and not considering playoffs) under one specific owner (314 games over 18+ years).


The Bengals hold a number of distinctions for the time frame of Mike Brown's ownership:

-- It is the only team with three nine-game-or-more losing streaks.

-- It also holds six of the twenty-five 0-6 starts (24%).

-- It holds four of the thirteen 0-8 starts (31%) in that time.


The Bengals have gone winless in October eight different times in twenty years under five different head coaches hired by Mike Brown. The most successful coach during Mike Brown's tenure is current coach Marvin Lewis with a 46.5 % winning percentage (60-69-1).

Palmer threw 2 fewer Int's than Drew Brees and 3 more than Peyton Manning. He was hardly the "main" reason why the Bengals stunk. His numbers were pretty solid all around last year.

Honestly, did you watch them play at all last year? He didn't play that well. He had several throws go right to the defense that were dropped or knocked away

Besides, I didn't say anything about picks. I said he threw into double and triple coverage

He was terrible. Whenever they needed a score he threw a pick, usually a pick 6.

He completed 62% of his passes and threw for nearly 4000 yds and was top 6 in the league in TD passes on a 5-11 team. Yeah he played terrible.

Carson Palmer went to USC, therefore he can go to hell for all I care.

The Bengals need to quit looking out West for their draft picks. Even though I despise them, Pittsburgh always seems to find diamonds in the rough from smaller colleges from the East.

You obviously did not watch very many Bengals games. Now I don't put all the blame on Carson but he made a lot of bad decisions. I think he was trying too hard to please TO sometimes, but he publicly stated he wanted him so that doesn't excuse those mistakes. The stats may show ints, but throwing a pick six against Tampa when you're inside your own 20 is far worse than a regular int, and that's just one example.

I don't get this. Palmer put in his time and wants to go elsewhere. He still has value and Brown could improve his team with a trade. And I don't understand why people think if Brown trades him he has to give into everyone that demands a trade. He's the owner. It's not a precedent hat he must then follow going forward. Each case can be handled entirely different if Brown wanted to.

The Crypt Keeper was talking about this on ESPN this morning and although I agree that Mike Brown can't knuckle under to trade demands, he'll still likely come out of this looking like a moron.

Clayton believes Palmer will take his "sabbatical" year off only to come back to the Bengals NEXT year so he'll be traded. Not exactly smart business on Brown's part since Palmer's value after a year of sitting out won't likely be nearly as high as if they tried to move him now.

As an outsider, I applaud Mike Brown for this.

Look, nobody put a gun to Carson Palmer's head and forced him to sign his Bengals contract. That was done by his own free will. Therefore if he's unhappy with said contract, he should've never signed it in the first place. Mike Brown has EVERY right to do what he is doing and the fact that Palmer would rather retire than honor his contract show's that he's nothing but a whiny, pathetic, diva.

LOL I was going to reference Bill Simmons but in a different manner, didn't he say something about how everyone outside Cincinnati knows Palmer's arm is done? I'll try to find the article.

At any rate, Palmer isn't worth much on any team - he had a good few seasons but it is very obvious he isn't a top level QB anymore, or even a serviceable QB.

He's honoring his contract by retiring every bit as much as the team would be doing so by cutting him.

I watch a lot of NFL, games, highlights, replays, etc. That is without question the worst throw I've ever seen a QB make. Everything about it was just wrong.

Palmer's pick six to Grimm (? I think that it is the guy) last October was just an embarrassment.

Good ole dave shula. The coach that a 700WLW sports host, Andy Furmin, once said the only thing he had going for him wad he was "sperm lucky".

That infuriated the organization and tey threatend to pull the Bengals off the station. I think they may have followed through...but I forget.
