What my penis does in the presence of hot men is something I can't control. When I was young I tried to control it but it didn't work.

As far as my negative feelings about Christianity, I used to be a devout Christian. Looking back on it, I realize how much it hurt me. I no longer care if Christians regard gays as sinners. Sin is a man-made concept. Because of my involvement in the gay community in Seattle, I am around many gay and lesbian young people. I encourage them to be themselves.

As noted, you're accusing others as you would not have them accuse you -- and it's hypocritical and doesn't do you or your cause any good. It only alienates people from you.

Time to grow up and stop acting like a petulant child by calling other people names...just because you were hurt when you were young.

But people don't necessarily go to these places on their own accord. Young people are usually pushed there by their parents. When the treatment doesn't work (which it never does), this creates new conflict between the young gay or lesbian and the parents. Failure can also cause people to go into depression and even suicide.

The whole industry is a fraud and should be shut down.

I am grown up and I don't need criticism from a fool like you. My life would have been a lot nicer if I hadn't encountered people like you when I was young.

That's your opinion and you have that right. Christians prefer to see sin as a Biblical concept. We also have that right.

Hence, there is no difference between your choice to practice homosexuality and mine to practice Christianity.

I have two opinions on this.

The industry/this place/what these types of organizations and such try to do is incredibly stupid and probably does more harm then help.

However, I don't think there's anything wrong legally with most of them.

There is one difference. There are all kinds of scientific studies that show that homosexuality is a normal thing for those it encompasses. There is no scientific basis whatsoever for Christianity. I am gay because I have to be. You are a Christian because you want to be.

I take the attitude I take because I am past the point of being hurt. I am no longer sexually active and am gay in name only. But I do care about young people who are still being tormented. There is a lot of suicide among young gays and lesbians. My only goal now is to help them.

Getting back to the point of this thread, if Michelle Bachmann actually believes homosexuality is a sickness that can be treated, I shudder to think of what she would do as president. Among other things, she would probably roll back Don't Ask Don't Tell.

I don't really care one way or another what they do with that, but why do we even need to know someone's sexual preference in a workplace?

I'm someone who supports a few of the same things you do -- yet you call me a fool and ASSume I was someone who hurt gay people in some way when I was younger.

How does that NOT prove what I wrote about being a hypocrite and driving people away, let alone the damage it has to be doing (have done) to you with all that hatred eating you up from the inside?

You're far quicker to judge people on here than some of the religious people you're railing against.

Well, for example, spousal benefits. If you claim your gay partner for health insurance, then the company will know.

In my case, it was a little different. I outed myself to the company when I told them I joined Seattle Men's Chorus. Many of the straight employees of that company attended chorus performances and they knew the singers were gay. But this is Seattle, not Dallas, and the response was very positive. But even in gay-friendly Seattle, some of our members keep their membership secret for fear of being fired.

Wrong. The majority of people who attend our concerts are straight. We are not only gay but we are the best male chorus in the world. Our holiday concerts are seen by more than 20,000 people. People attend our concerts because we're good, not because we're gay.

This is a good point. I grew up Catholic and attended Catholic school for 12 years. Currently I'm no longer I'd say a catholic but I'm not an atheist/agnostic either...I'm more of the "I don't know, I will never know, so I don't worry about it" variety. With that said I'm on Fairwood's side on this one. While it's true that not every christian is intolerant, the Bible itself preaches that homosexuality is an aberration. If you're a christian and think that it's perfectly ok to be gay, you're a hypocrite in some regard. As someone who was persecuted by the church to the point where it had an emotional effect on a good portion of his life, I'd say he's perfectly in line to criticize religion.

"God" didn't create anything. We got here through evolution. Gays and lesbians have been found in every culture and in every period of history. We are as natural in the great scheme of things as your Adam and Eve.

Most Christians I know do not believe "it's OK to be gay" but most also do not condemn the sinner, just the sin.
