How many of them would they have to send? Ubaldo is under contract/arbitration till 2014, so it could be worth it.

Hasn't he only had essentially one half of a good year in his entire career?

ERA the last 3 years. He slowed last 2nd half and has struggled this season. But he has been good the last couple weeks. It is funny that you site only 1 good half though, considering Leake has not come close to touching Ubaldo. Just saying.

Leake is only in his 2nd year and is 4 years younger than Jimenez. Leake is as good as Jiminez was when he was 22-23 and will only (likely) get better.

Leake at 22: 8-4, 4.23, 138.1 IP
Jiminez at 22: 0-0, 3.52, only 7.2 IP

Leake at 23: 8-4, 4.28, 94.2 IP (current season)
Jiminez at 23: 4-4, 4.28, 82 IP

That said, Leake will probably never win 19 games or have a sub-3 ERA. Jiminez will never do it again, either.

Not like Ubaldo is old though. He is 27, a Cy Young threat, with electric stuff. I dont see Leake ever developing into that. I dont even see him as ever being a #1.

My bad. I didn't know for sure, that's why I asked the question rather than just say "he's only had one half of a good year" I know he struggled after his great start last yaer, and I thought I remember that being his first "good" year in the bigs, obviously I was wrong as he has done pretty well for himself.

Leake was pitching in college 2 seasons ago. It's unfair to say whether he will or will not ever be a #1.

Leake should be a solid #2. He certainly doesn't have the "stuff" Jiminez does but stuff can be overrated. Volquez has electric stuff and he sucks dick more often than not.

Thats true. I guess I just dont see the electric stuff, but rather the stuff of a #2 and #3. With #1 and Aces I like to see high K totals and unhittable stuff for stretches every game. If that makes more sense.

Leake has a lot of promise to be a very good big leaguer, but I look at Ubaldo and already see one, who I think will get even better as he gets older and matures (although, I dont think we see another 2.88 year out of him). I think we will consistently see 3.20-3.50 ERAs out of him.

Thats also true. But Ive seen Jimenez have his stuff be good for 3 straight years. This year he seems to be turning it around lately, at least from the random innings Ive watched over the last month. Edinson did it for 1 year.

Leake has the stuff of a #3. However, he might very-well have the entire package to become a #1 in-terms of control, location, intelligence, etc...

Again, those things are much tougher to possess to make up for the lack of stuff, and based on Leake's minor indiscretion earlier this season, I wouldn't quite say that he "has it" quite yet. As of now, I'd most definitely include him in a deal for Ubaldo providing that Jimenez is 100% healthy. If Leake continues and finishes with say a sub-4 ERA and wins 15+ games, given his team control until like 2016, I'd favor keeping him.

Wouldn't mind getting rid of Coco, that'd be awesome actually. But I don't see Colorado being that stupid. I love Mony but he's got tons of trade value right now. This is the highest his value will probably be for the duration of his career. I also don't see his great offensive production continuing for much longer. He's expendable with Hanigan, Mesoraco in AAA, and Grandal in the system as well.

I'd really hate to give up Leake. He has his ups and downs but the guy is a ballplayer and a pretty crafty, young pitcher. I love pitchers like him who aren't full effort guys and can eat up innings. I'd rather hang on to Leake over Bailey due to Bailey's constant injury history. It's a shame he can't stay healthy for long periods of time because I do think he could be a great pitcher. Alonso would kind of suck trading. He's definitely a major league hitter in my eyes and it'd be nice to hang onto him, especially with Votto becoming a pretty expensive free agent in 2 years.

I would give up Grandal or Alonso, AAA outfielder or Heisey, and maybe Bailey. Huge maybe though.

They want "multiple arms" in return if they deal him.

Where did Ramon and Coco come from? They most certainly 100% will not be involved if a deal happened. We would have to hope Colorado would take Volquez. Maybe a package like Alonso, Volquez, Leake, Grandal/Frazier. I don't want to lose Leake either but they are going to want an arm that is a sure bet to be a big league pitcher. IF Walt pulled this off you don't need Leake anyway. I think Bronson's untradable contract will prevent a deal like this from going down. They need to keep these young cheap prospects to offset Bronson/Votto/Bruce/possible BP over the next few years.

2012-13
Jiminez
Cueto
Chapman
Arroyo
Wood/Bailey

One of Bailey, Wood or Leake + Alonso/Heisey + Boxberger + Grandal = deal.

Cueto
Jimenez
Bailey/Leake
Wood
VolquezArroyo

I still predict Chapman never starts a game for the Reds.
