Maybe a package like Alonso, Volquez, Leake, Grandal/Frazier. I don't want to lose Leake either but they are going to want an arm that is a sure bet to be a big league pitcher. IF Walt pulled this off you don't need Leake anyway. I think Bronson's untradable contract will prevent a deal like this from going down. They need to keep these young cheap prospects to offset Bronson/Votto/Bruce/possible BP over the next few years.

2012-13
Jiminez
Cueto
Chapman
Arroyo
Wood/Bailey
Ramon is likely going somewhere, may as well try to work him into this deal.

I still predict Chapman never starts a game for the Reds.

No way I give up that much for someone who isn't an ace.

CoCo wouldn't be a fit with Huston Street already there.

Bailey, Heisey, Boxberger, and Grandal you say? I'd be fine with that.

If Colorado is giving up Ubaldo, that means they are giving up on the season. They aren't going to have any interest in Ramon, he's going to a contender.

Well, I'd still do it. Obviously.

Yeah, but if Colorado's looking to deal Jimenez, I'd doubt they'd want old guys like Ramon or Coco. They'd be looking to rebuild with high-caliber youth, not take a couple old guys who won't be around much longer off someone's hands.

I just don't like the prospect of mortgaging the future for a guy that has not shown that he can be a dominant pitcher for 1 whole season, let alone a career.

He's under contract until 2014 I believe and I don't think anyone is proposing to give up the future. Alonso is blocked by Votto and Grandal is soon to be blocked by Mesoraco. Why not give up a pitcher or two when you get a number one in return and knowing that plans are to try Chapman as a starter also next year?

A sub 4 ERA for three straight years including a sub 3 ERA last year isnt good enough? What the hell do you want him to do?

UJ will not happen quickly. It started well, looked to be quick deal, now CO acting like children. Won't happen unless CO reasonable.

Take Ubaldo away from Coors' Field and he is dominant: 55.1 IP, 30H, 57K, 20BB 2.28 ERA, OPP OPS (by far the best of any NL starter) .486

I think many are underestimating his production. Leake should not be a deal breaker.

Well coming to GABP is almost as bad. The NL central parks are also much harder to pitch in than NL West parks. I'd actually expect his numbers to get worse but that's ok he can still outpitch just about anyone on any given night, that's all that really matters.

How long is leake signed on for? I'd rather have 5+ years of leake and some of the other trade pieces than 2 and a half years of ubaldo

Leake's service time won't even reach 2 years by the end of this season. He isn't arbitration eligible until after the 2012 season. He's under Reds' control until after the 2015 season, as it stands now. Now, the Reds have shown, as many other teams have, that they will sign a guy prior and pay him before those arbitration years, but Leake is still technically not free to leave until 2015. He's under team control cheaply (relatively speaking since he WAS a first round pick) until probably after 2013 if he continues on this pace.

Really? 2.5 years is a long time. Who knows what the state of the franchise will be in 5 years. Right now, the Reds can win, and win big. That means this year, and at least next year. Id make this deal happen in a heartbeat.
