What I get from the trailer is that he is physically in a pod back at the base while his avatar is running around the planet fighting them. I'm having a hard time believing someone wouldn't just put a bullet through him in the pod and the fight would be over.
If that's the entire plot, then this will probably be a bust. But I'm going to see it anyway.

"Boss, you know that agent we have on their planet in an avatar body who's in our virtual reality pod? He's betrayed us and gone over to their side! What should we do? Execute him as a traitor or......just wait and see how it all plays out?"
"Well, lieutenant, while all indications are that he is 100% on their side, he still might be just trying to infiltrate them to give us more info. Sure, all of his advice is leading us into ambushes, but I have a feeling that any time now, he'll hand them over to us. Let's wait...."
And the movie world has its Ishtar for a new generation....
