There are two possible answers to this problem... The real answer is that there is not enough information to make and educated response. Is this a "simple math problem" which would be right to left adding and subtracting the ones until you multiple the zero and get ZERO?

Or is this posted to be an algebraic equation which would result in the use of "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally?" In that case, the answer would be 14

There are two answers and not enough info provided to find which is the right answer.

No, there is one answer. There is absolutely no ambiguity. Only people who can do math, and those who cannot.

Then send in a PM and explanation please... I can do math and this is a two sided problem.

Why? PEMDAS is PEMDAS. PEMDAS IS math. There is no such thing where a left to right overtakes PEMDAS

You were taught wrong. Multiplication before addition has been around since the 1600's.

Same here. This whole math problem has two answers depending on how you were taught.

Unless the problem is grouped, you work it left to right. Not enough info, are we working a "math problem" or an "algebraic solution?"

I like how a math problem is posted because it's a known trick math question, and then people feel all special about themselves because others got it wrong. Must be tough having to feel good about yourself in this manner. SMH

I don't blame you, then, nor do I think you to be dumb.

I think your TEACHER to be incompetent, and hopefully they were out of a job not long after you left the class.

The math problem still only has one answer, regardless of how you were taught. However, as I said, a person cannot be blamed for being taught incorrectly.

I do wonder, though. Did you ever take standardized testing? Granted, I don't believe such testing to be perfect (especially when timed), but for the purposes of evaluating math comprehension, it would seem to be an apt gauge. Moreover, I have to wonder if you were taught out of books or just from a teaching winging it, as books would have had it printed accurately.

Most of it is just ribbing, but we are laughing at someone who is trying to explain how the wrong answer is the right answer.

Also, it's not a trick question, just shows the failure of our education system. The 288 or 2 is a trick question, this one just either catches people off guard, or people who just can't do math.

But it was only posted because the OP knew people would get it wrong.

BTW, I agree, there is only one answer.
