I tend to agree with that.

I don't like the fact that the premise of, "the child can't speak for themselves" would be used. The legal guardian holds that responsibility and obligation. If the legal guardian chooses circumcision it shouldn't be restricted.

I don't have any figures in front of me, but I read recently that circumcision at birth west of the Rockies is less than 50%. However to the east of the mountains it well exceeded that figure. Pretty huge divide actually and quite strange the difference based on geography.

And relationship benefits, my wife can't even stand to look at an uncut member in medical books - let alone touch one. It is true that it isn't as popular as it used to be, when I was a kid it was unheard of not to be cut - to the extent that the guys we knew in college that weren't were incredibly touchy about it (no pun intended) - maybe these are the people behind the ban? Revenge for feeling out of place?

Plus there are people who suggest circumcision gets rid of very sensitive (read, feels good) tissue.

I don't know a single guy who needs to be more sensitive. Talk about not lasting long at all.

I don't know if this is true or not, but I've noticed on message boards that talk about this issue, it's mostly females who are all worked up about it. What the hell would they know about circumcision? The idea that men should wait and then choose after 18 is crazy, men are squeamish about getting a vasectomy and you want them to get the tip of their penis cut off? Babies are not traumatized by the procedure, it's just a dumb attempt to regulate people's lives more.

Indeed, people that are sensitive (pun intended) about being uncut and different. I've never known a guy feel bad about being cut, or have a female complain about it - an as CCRunner mentioned there was NO ONE at my HS that wasn't - or even at Buckeye Boys State that I can recall. I know of a few folks that feel that way on the other side. More importantly I've also never heard anyone demand that all boys be cut even back in the 60's70's when it was typical, but on the other hand see the article posted.

The geographic chart isn't that surprising, Hispanics typically don't engage in the behavior, the larger that population, the more you will see uncircumcised.

It isn't just ethnics dude. A lot of people see it as without purpose any more since hygiene isn't nearly the health threat it used to be.

I mean, I agree about no knowing a guy feel bad about being cut though.

Like I said, torn on the issue because while I certainly don't have a problem with circumcision I also think some of the anti-cutting arguments are worthwhile. Doesn't really bug me either way.

I didn't say it was ALL about ethnics, and there are words for the people you mention...they are called busybodies, nannies and IMO just straight out pathetic losers. I might not allow my daughter to get her ears pierced at age 12, but I'm not starting a statewide ban on it. And if you look at some of the groups behind this there is definitely an anti-Jewish aspect to it.

The people who are for this ban simply disagree with you that circumcision is akin to piecing ears. They believe it to be a unreversable mutilation of the body and that people should be free to make that decision for themselves when they are adults. I don't exactly agree with that but they aren't busybodies because they disagree with you.

No offense meant IWP, but this has nothing to do with mutilation, its about control and douchebags trying to dictate behavior they don't agree with and are otherwise too incompetent to do anything other than making noise. Somehow, the 125 boys I went to HS with turned out ok.

The inverse is also true, somehow the people without it turn out ok too.

And again, I wouldn't argue for a ban because that's not how I like to accomplish things. I'd think that educating people that it isn't a necessary procedure anymore would be a better way to go about it.

Educated by whom? I sure as hell don't want a dime of tax money spent on it. If we were to have another child (shoot me), our family doctor would do the only educating we would require.

It has been a "choice" for many, many years. It wasn't forced on people. They chose to do it. The government shouldn't be deciding that people should no longer choose this, be it necessary or not.

I don't know what to think about that debate. I've browsed articles that suggest it's traumatic to the baby to have him cut or what have you. But, personally I'm glad that I am circumcised as all the girls I know are weirded out by uncut wangs I suppose just because it's not that prevalent around here...

So I don't know, I guess you have the baby boy experience the pain of circumcision which he won't remember in exchange for a lifetime of higher self-esteem when girls don't make a grossed out face when he takes his pants down???

I suppose I can see where person might argue "but the baby doesn't have a choice."
