The final scrimmage...a half under game conditions, hence a "Preview".

Intresting. Seems as if coach asher wants those boys to play some real competition before the season!ManO'War;812328 wrote:The final scrimmage...a half under game conditions, hence a "Preview".

If the Cats can play well vs the big red, i see that adding to their confidence. I like whats going on in Wildcat Country

They lost around 12 seniors that contributed. They still have most of their actual talent though. Except the lines, i see them being weaker than last year, well O LINE at least

Who is head coach at Struthers this year?
They made great strides last year. I was actually able to catch 8 games...That's the most I've been to since the 2000 season.

I can see Struthers Going 6-4 this year or 7-3. All depends on the line like omemorialhigh said. I can see this being a very strong season that Struthers should be Proud of. They deserve a Winning season!

New coach is Mark Asher. Took East Liverpool to the playoffs last year. Had a good QB he built the team around, a similar system could work with the Young cats quarterback. Kimbrough if i remember right.

Mark Asher. The coach from East Liverpool. Great move for the CATS

This will prove to be the turning point for Struthers. Just like Campbell had with Bayuk. This is the best and proven coach since Zetts for the Wildcats. I'm kinda excited for them also. <------ Who said that? See ya week 10 at the Devils Den!Spread All Day;827244 wrote:Mark Asher. The coach from East Liverpool. Great move for the CATS

hearing both mooney and ursuline are looking very hard at possibly trying to bring in kimbrough for a lil "walk through" of their facilities...

Are you serious? Wow if true that is why they need sanctioned by the state. Its bad enough Struthers had about as much luck with a winning season as Campbell did in 20 years. And have these schools come in and snatch a player a team is going to build around. that could ruin a program for a few years. If that happens if true. If he ends up with Ursuline or struthers its a win win for Spread all day. lol ha bad joke i know.

6-4 at worst this year.
8/26 Jefferson Area
9/2 at Girard
9/9 Beaver Local
9/16 at Liberty
9/23 at East Liverpool
9/30 LaBrae
10/7 at Youngstown East
10/14 Lakeview
10/21 Hubbard
10/28 Campbell Memorial
With that schedule, 6 wins should be expected... probably more.
I think EL and Hubbard will both take a step backwards this year. Both should be very tough games though.
EL still has Thompkins, but that program is in quite a pickle after losing Asher. It isn't like Struthers lured him away either... someone cried unfair when he was passed over for the job. Anywho, this will no doubt be another war, picking up right where last year's game left off. Struthers has to have some kind of advantage though, with EL'S old HC on their sidelines... we know how that is.
Hubbard lost their entire starting backfield... among other positions. Novotny was a huge force on defense as well. They'll probably struggle early on, but they should be able to plug in the pieces by week 9. Still, I have my doubts that they can go 8-2 and get a top seed in Region 9 again.
Jefferson, BL, Liberty, LaBrae, and East are all games that are very winnable.
Girard should be the first test for the Cats, but it's another very winnable game.
The three toughest games are at the end of the year. By that point, they should be ready though.
They've already had 3 or 4 passing scrimmages. Lowellville, West Branch, and Brookfield for sure... they may have already scrimmaged someone else too. I don't know if they'll be at the passing scrimmages in Poland, whenever those are. If they're tomorrow, probably not. If they're next week, it wouldn't surprise me. They go into Death Valley to scrimmage Steubenville the week before the opener. No disrespect to Jefferson, but they're not Steubenville. If the Cats can hold their own against Big Red, or at least keep it interesting, that should carry over through the first few weeks of the season.
The Kimbrough to Mooney rumors started over the winter. He's still at Struthers, isn't he? I think that since they got a slam dunk at Head Coach with Asher, those rumors can be put to rest. Coach Asher has three National Championship rings, and a Big Ten Championship ring. Why wouldn't the kids want to play for him?
It can be argued that Pollifrone actually hurt himself by leaving last year. If he stayed, Struthers likely goes 7-3 or 8-2, and makes the playoffs. Being that they haven't made the playoffs since 1999, I'd say that would've gotten him a lot more attention than going 4-6 at Boardman.
If that happens though, we don't get Asher... and hindsight is 20/20.
I do have a good idea of who the starters will be... I'm thinking I should pull a Steubenville and not discuss it openly on the forums though.

very good analysis...im seeing 5-5 or 4-6. i think the campbell game will decide the diff. struthers lost a ton on both lines and a great running back, lets not be naive to think that any of these other teams have lost alot but some will be reloading also. jefferson, beaver local, liberty, east liverpool all wins for me. girard, east, lakeview, hubbard all losses for me. yes hubbard has lost alot but i just cant see that program falling to the point where struthers gets over the hump with them. toss ups will be labrae and campbell. labrae had a talented young team last year so they may surprise struthers. campbell/struthers is a rivalry game where anything can happen. the game is in soup city so its def a toss up with both teams losing alot. I just dont see 7-3 just yet...rome wasnt built in a day, but things are looking up. will get interesting the following year when they move up to tier 1.

Hubbard beat the Wildcats by 4 last season, so i believe that's winnable as well. Struthers has more exp. then hubbard too.
I can see 7-3 (hopefully) but you never know with Struthers football (anymore)
I see Struthers and a few other schools leaving this joke of a conference after this season as well.
Kimbrough was never brought in by Ursuline, or even asked.
All in all, i see Struthers suprising a lot of teams this season.

East may be at home. I just thought that since the Lakeview game was away last year, it'd be home this year. So I flipped East and Lakeview. I thought the schedule may have been posted wrong, as so many are in High School.

just my opinion spread...i could be wrong...but i just think 7-3 is a bit optimistic. it takes awhile to beat losing out of these kids, sikora is still working on it at campbell. i dont care what anyone says you have to know how to win, programs like lakeview and hubbard know how to win. east is just a hunch. my opinion. im seeing 4-6, 5-5. who knows. injuries will play a part. and the post said ursuline was trying to bring in kimbrough...not that they did. lets not be naive to think that they didnt consider it.

Asher did a lot of good with Thompson in East Liverpool. If Kimbrough listens to Asher and learns to not take those chances like he did last year he will be in good shape, He had a lot of INT cause of being young. Yes i blame that INTs on being very young. He has a arm and has accuracy. He has the makings of a great Qb that people will talk about for years. But the graduation of your running back will hurt this year. That kid was fast! I still think 6-4. the 7-3 might be possible if they bring it each game. but like i said before 6-4 is more possible! Hell i would be happy if they go 5-5 that's a improvement for any first year coach that is a taking a program that has been down for years. Remember bayuk had to deal with a 0-10 season his first year in Campbell.

Losing Brooks will hurt a bit, but it's not a huge deal. You guys are forgetting that Tommy is probably a bigger threat on the ground, than through the air. Ask EL about that. He ran all over them.
They won't have Jermayne's break away speed, but Tommy has some speed of his own. Jermayne's younger brother, Jovantae, will play this year too.
I think they'll have more of a ball control style, mythotical offense... rather than just relying on big plays to keep them in games.
Beat the losing out of the kids? Just about everyone on the team has won at the JV, Freshman, and Jr. High levels. Those kids aren't exactly accustomed to losing...

Bayuks first year we actually went 1-9. Beat EL with a late field goal 18-15reddevil90;830150 wrote:Asher did a lot of good with Thompson in East Liverpool.
