I do tend to agree. But if this SI article comes out, and there is more...then it wasn't the media pressure as much as it was the media coming up with more on Tressel. Tressel never has folded to the media.
As for Gee and Smith...from what I heard, they were in support. BUT Smith was PISSED after the press conference when Tressel did not apologize as he was pretty much ordered to. That may have been the beginning of the end as far any support from Smith and Gee.

Gene Smith wont survive this situation either. I expect Gee will move on or retire within 3 years.

Name another coach or school that has taken as much media heat over the past 10 years as OSU? USC was far worse in its offenses and cover up and there was nowhere near this kind of media heat. Not even close. Auburn? Laughable. I've only seen it focused on JT. First with the Clarret situation and now.

I have no problem with whatever punishment is meted out so long as it fits the "crime" in this case. But let's remember: OSU has been a model citizen when it comes to turning itself in compared to most universities. If the NCAA decides to hammer them, what does that say to other schools who might be in the same boat?

If you're going to get hammered as harshly for playing by the rules...then perhaps it's time to stop being such a good citizen (like the SEC). If you're going to get in trouble WORSE for turning yourself in, then why do it?

Name another coach or school that has taken as much media heat over the past 10 years as OSU? USC was far worse in its offenses and cover up and there was nowhere near this kind of media heat. Not even close. Auburn? Laughable. I've only seen it focused on JT. First with the Clarret situation and now.

That's part of being Ohio State. We're held to a higher standard. Get used to it.

I wish everybody would stop crying about us getting hammered. We broke rules. If we were clean, the media wouldn't have anything to talk about

So why aren't the media after just about every SEC school? They aren't big time college football programs like OSU? Haven't they won the past several championships?

What are you saying here: the SEC is EXPECTED to be dirty so it's not a story; they aren't held to any standard at all, so they should be ignored?

Didn't ESPN do a story about awhile back about the SEC and over signing? I really don't think OSU or Tressel is targeted any more. I think you feel that way because you pay attention to it more.

I really think they were getting out in front of the SI story, thus the timing.

I've pretty much stood behind JT this whole time, but if there's new stuff in the SI article, then this is probably justified.

No. The sheer volume of stories is greater in both cases (Clarret and now).

No other school has had its entire program questioned like OSU's was during the Alamo Bowl -- where they spent more than a half of football saying how dirty it was, JT and Geiger should resign, etc. And then NOTHING was found by the NCAA. Oh and that game crap was then followed up by a half-hour "Inside the Lines" program on the same issue.

ESPN didn't do that with ANYONE other than OSU. Not USC, not UM, nobody.

Yes, I pay more attention when it's OSU, but you have to be blind not to see what I'm talking about.

IDK, prior to the tattoo stuff, I can honestly say OSU wasn't in the news much.

I mean, of course they are in the news when there is scandalous news, like Clarrett. But I don't think they get any more than anyone else.

You could be right, but I find it curious that nothing has leaked out from that story yet. If it's THAT major, I would have expected it to be leaked -- hell if by nobody else, the website would leak it to get media play and buildup for when the article comes out.

I honestly believe this has more to do with the OSU bigwigs tiring of the constant media pounding than it does actual transgressions.

Yawn. Stop complaining about the media. The media didn't hide stuff from the ncaa and didn't sell their memoribilia for tattoos.

We aren't innocent in any of this, so stop complaining about people covering it

Do you honestly believe USC/Bush were in the news as much? I personally don't think it was coach. And I don't think USC even got the media light as much as UM did with RichRod either.

JT had no choice but to resign, or The OSU would have had no choice but to fire him....The Tressel Era is now officially over (much to my dismay), but it's time to start a new chapter in Buckeye football...GO BUCKS!!!!

Pretty good blog comments. Which I kind of agree with. But I disagree about Tressel weathering the storm. I personally believe he should have resigned, and think he did the right thing. As for Brent Musburger..screw him. Never liked him and always thought he disliked OSU big time.

USC/Bush got a lot of media attention. It was on ESPN all the time . The big difference is that USC was spread out over years, being dragged out. OSU has happened pretty quick, just a matter of months.

So I think it could appear that OSU is getting hammered more, when in reality it has more to do with the timeline.

Also, I didn't say Michigan got as much coverage. That was my point. At the time, it seemed like we were all over the news. But it's because I read every piece and watched every show. I scoured the message boards defending and discussing. So it SEEMED like we were in the media spotlight, but really we weren't.
