Ok here's the situation. My fiancee is maid of honor in her friends wedding next weekend in Atlanta. She talked to her friend last night and her friend informed her that there will no longer beany room at her house with all the family that is coming in, so we'll have to get a hotel room. But she needs her to come wednesday still to help her with the wedding. So thats 4 nights in a hotel at the last minute. And since she doesn't have her dress yet, she wants her to buy another one at a local shop in atlanta just to make sure she has one for the wedding incase the other one doesnt show. These dresses are $300 a piece. We've already spent 650 on plane tickets, 250 on a rental car, now looking at ~$500 for hotel rooms and extra $300 for another dress.....all for the privilage of being ather wedding? I'd at least put an out of town guest in a hotel if I didnt have room for them at my house.

You think they would put you up in the hotel. Usually when out of towners are coming the bride/groom, at minimum, makes all the arrangements so that everyone is at the same motel. This would also get you reduced rates bc everyone would be staying at the same place.

Either way you are going to have to roll with it bc this is your fiancee's friend. Suck it up and have a fun weekend.

Was the best man at a wedding at TPC sawgrass... everyone stayed at the hotel and I had to pay for my room. Plus plane tickets etc... Seems to be standard procedure. Although the brides grandparents and mother were the only ones that lived in Jacksonville. I ended up spending at least 800 for just me on that wedding.

Was she initially invited to stay with her, if so very rude to withdraw the offer. Otherwise there's no expectation that accomodations are provided. The dress thing is silly, no way should she have to purhcase the other one.

Yes we were, until last night, staying in their guest room. Now someone else is.

appreciated.. but this is $800 additional at the last minute to the 900 we've (I've) already spent.

Granted, I didn't get a rental car, my tux was only 180$ and I split my hotel room with 2 other guys. And my wife hated the bride so she found a way not to go. So it was just me. If my wife went I would be in your same situation. Which totally sucks.

I would tell your woman that you aren't going and she is staying at her friends house. Cancel the rental car and have them pick her up from the airport, and cancel your plane ticket if you can. Then go golfing while she's gone. She will understand. Seriously its a waste of money.

Can't cancel the plane ticket but the rest are very close to being cancelled lol

IMO, you shouldn't ask someone to be in your wedding if you can't pay for them to be there. Airfare, hotel, dress. You should at least be able to offer all of that. I'd be pissed to have to pay that much just to be in a wedding.

Sounds like the bride is being a bridezilla. The choices are obviously she goes and everything will get back to normal after the wedding, or you guys dont go and they will never speak again.

I believe it is customary for the bridesmaids to buy their own dress unless that is their gift from the bride

Yeah I didn't want to go and blow a bunch of money and didn't want to cancel on my friend either. That is why my wife and I decided I should go by myself and do it more cheaply. Financially it didn't make sense to spend vacation type money on a freaking weekend wedding.

Girl I used to work with was getting married in the Bahamas and was irked that more people couldn't make it to the wedding. As much as I enjoyed the Bahamas it was still the friggin Bahamas. Can't expect someone to just pull up and leave the country, at their own expense, for a wedding.

Well that's your opinion but it ain't reality, my wife has been in 4 weddings and we've spent $1,500-$2,000 on each if you add in parties, showers, etc. I've NEVER heard of anyone offering to pay for anyone else except one exception (and that guy was a billionaire, literally). If you can't afford to go to the wedding, you can simply decline the invitation.

personally if i invited an out of town guest to stay with me and didnt have room for them, I'd put them in a hotel.

I don't expect it either. I've already spent $900 on my own knowing I'd have to. The change of plans hotel for $500 and $300 insurance dress is what doesnt sit well with me.
