I have a DC insider who tells me that not only did Obama order the go ahead, he thought up the plan himself.

See how that works?

According to my readings Obama was heavily involved in the planning of the mission and met with security advisors several times. Also rejected bombing the compound to reduce casualties.

I wish Obama and the White House would make their minds up, They claimed in the beginning that they did not want to bomb the house because they would not know if the killed Bin Laden. First the reports were that Bin Laden was in a fire fight with the seals and even used one of his wifes as a shield but then the story changed and said that he was not armed and didn't resist or use his wife as a shield, Looks like they can't decide what happened either!

I don't think its "they" that can't decide. You need to check your sources. Most of mine have been pretty in line.

This thread reminds me of the "Bush was behind 9/11" shit. The most overly partisan people coming up with the most insane ideas (without viable sources) for the sole intent of discrediting any possible good will or sympathy for the incumbent president. There's no logic at all -- just an immature refusal to admit that even for one moment, the guy in the other party might have handled something even remotely correctly.

This special operation was not the brain trust of one individual. The Community Organizer along with others more intensely involved in this mission was the determining factors in the process to proceed forward. Obama had no option but to agree with the experts and data. The fact that the risk of not doing something was greater harm that the potential failure of the mission politically. The right decision was made and those involved should be given the due respect. However with that being stated the same respect and admiration for the effort, program and commitment of past administration should not be under stated.

The objective of this mission whether a “kill only” or “optional objective” is of no importants. The bottom line was a two fold spec op mission. The first goal of this mission was the information gathered at this location. The secondary goal was Osama. I do believe this was a “kill only” mission in that respect.

Via other means the Administration and Intelligence knew of an al-Qaida plan for the up coming year. The stoppage of this plan and the link of those involved was the mission.

How the Administration is handling the release of information in regard to the data gathered at this location is wrong, poorly played and foolish. This proves my point that the main objective of the spec op was the securing of information.

You ever play liar poker with a five dollar bills or a buck?

You don't tell what you have, you tell what you don't have or keep you low key to see what the other player will or will not expose. The idea is to wait and see and learn from the other and the information you can get before revealing out your true numbers and taking the prize of the surprise.
The public does not need to know "now" what was gathered, money, harddrives, documents or phone numbers .... This administration can not help itself from patting itself on the back and toting the 'look at what we did". Community organizer mentality …

Saying they got those items reveals nothing to anyone that could do anything about it.

We did say that we recovered 5 cell phones. Whoever knew that they were in those cell phones, can now change habits, and make it harder for us to capture more insurgents. No?

I agree that we should have just not said anything, and let the rest of the terrorist world think that OBL is still alive.

But I feel that we could have kept it quiet. I think this was publicized because 2012 is around the corner.

Let put this in simplest terms.... The Obama Administration is in a campaign mode and has been for the past two years, anything and everything no matter want will be evaluated with the mentality of 2012 election as a factor. The benefits of making Obama look good in this time of $4.00 plus gallon gas, unemployment at 9% plus, additional economic problems, boarder and immigration issue, black chamber of commerce comments and the continuing failure of the socialist agenda …. Was always part of the equation?

So, you're saying that Obama was essentially just along for the ride in the first quoted post and then saying his administration carefully designed all this to help his campaigning in the second. Yep, you do make about as much sense as the people who were trying to say Bush was the real mastermind behind 9/11, while also regularly bashing him for a perceived lack of intelligence.

I don't necessarily agree with that take, but I don't think it's contradictory to say he was "along for the ride" and that the administration is then manipulating perception for maximum political benefit. Image is one thing that Obama understands and does better than anything. It might even be the only thing he excels at.

And it's not just Obama. There's an epidemic in Washington of politicians who seem capable only of reacting to exploit opportunity rather than proactively achieving anything of value.

I can agree with that. I just find Belly funny in the same way I'd guess conservatives find Gibby funny when he talks about Bush, as he's going to any possible extreme to avoid even remotely giving any credit to the current administration. When people are overly partisan to the point where common sense ceases to exist, it's entertaining to spend some time verbally treating them like a human pinata.
