The quote is missleading because he is talking about keeping the information from the compliance department. Thats it, not who else he may have shared the info with. Not a lie. It was pretty obvious from the presser that he did forward it to some people because Smith stepped in and said this is part of the NCAA investigation. That is why this is not a big deal because we knew it already and so does the NCAA.

Haha. I'm not bashing. Just how I'm seeing it. Something reeks here. And if Tressel stays and keeps kicking ass, then so be it. That really has nothing to do with it.

But since you mentioned it, I don't think Hoke's record against OSU will be anything like Carr and Rod's. :)

OSU pretends like nothing is wrong and the NCAA drops the hammer on them (forfeit the 2010 season, no bowl games for 2 years, reduced scholarships, full season ban for Tressel including practice, and maybe more).

I originally didn't think all that would happen. I am starting to think Tressel will not be on the sideline next year. Just my opinion folks.

I hope he notified the parents or mentors of the other players involved at the same time. Seeing that all he was really concerned about was their safety, I am sure he did.

No he never said that. He just said he didn't tell compliance because he was more concerned about their involvement with a potential criminal activity. He also never said he didn't forward the messege. It was pretty clear from the Presser that he did. Therefore the NCAA already knows, so that is why this isn't a big deal. Your second paragraph is insaine. Please seperate facts from what people thought they saw from the press confrence. As it has already been proven that he covered this stuff up and he got this suspension from OSU for it and that is what the NCAA is investigating. How hard is that to understand.

And...Ed Martin was giving some of the fab 5 guys money as early as Junior High.

This "mentor" for Pryor is going to make this thing even worse. I know that OSU said they looked into it, but when colleges say things like that, what they really mean is:

"We looked into him and we are pretty sure we can keep the illegal things he is doing for the player secret and avoid the NCAA problems."

Don't be surprised if Pryor gets Dez Bryant treatment and doesn't play this season at all once the NCAA looks into his mentor a little bit more.

As for Web, of course he wants to see OSU fail. But he seems to be pretty informed on this issue and really isn't saying anything that OSU fans shouldn't be thinking themselves.

The Dispatch requested all emails between Tressel and the "mentor", so once they receive them we will know more.

However, it's safe to assume that the NCAA already is further along in their investigation, so whatever comes out in the media is something the NCAA is likely already aware of, so nothing groundbreaking is being discovered here.

But when you have a 65 year old man lending his Corvette to the #1 HS player in the country, it just doesn't fit. Is there a violation? Well not at this point. But the last thing OSU needs is the NCAA digging deeper into the relationship between Pryor and this "mentor".

And it's hard to trust Pryor to do the right thing. First it was the Corvette in HS, then the "loaner" cars while at OSU, then the tattoos.

Or it means "We told this guy to stay away, but he won't."

Correct. He could have lied about everything and it wouldn't matter to the NCAA. It's just insulting to the fans that Tressel thought we were too dumb to question him.

Good post. Similar things with Martin. If you notice, Michigan did not vacate wins until the point Martin was deemed a booster by the NCAA, because before that, he no affiliation with the school and technically no violations.

I never stated that he said he didnt forward the email, I said he stated he didnt forward to the OSU admins or the compliance people because of confidentiality. You even bolded it in your quote of my post. Maybe you had trouble reading it due to the Scarlet and Gray colored glasses you were reading it through.

While I am not an OSU fan, my father is and Tressel getting fired would crush the old man. I dont want to see it happen, but in my opinion (which isnt tainted by fanboy status) I really believe OSU has to fire him to avoid major NCAA infractions.



What I do think is funny is that all of the OSU fans who trashed Michigan when they were being looked at and were calling for the death penalty are all of a sudden scrambling like rats when the lights come on.

I guess karma may actually be something.

Exactly my point. That is why this email isn't a big deal because the NCAA already knew about it. It all depends on who he forwarded it to, like other coaches, gene smith etc as to how much trouble Tress/OSU will be in. If he had done so, I think self punishment would have already been issued. They did say at the presser that Tressel is as far as it went at OSU, so as an OSU fan I hope that is the case. If it came out that he emailed it to Gene Smith, then OSU is in deep shit, if they didn't tell that to the NCAA back in Feburary. Because OSU says that Tressel is as far as it went at OSU then forwarding it to a "mentor" is not a big deal. It doesn't change the fact that he didn't come forward with the info and played the players knowing they were ineligable. All things we already knew. Nothing new.

Also OSU and NCAA already knew about this, so its not like OSU just found out he forwarded it to him, this is not going to make them fire Tressel because they knew this already. The fire tressel people think OSU found out about this today and will now react. They did and it was a 2 game suspension, 250k fine.

THIS is NOT "new" information to OSU Administrators, nor is it "new" to the NCAA. Will this have any effect on any more punishment? I dont think so. I'm just saying it isnt new information to the people that are supposed to know.

While it may not be "new"...it is proof that he was full of crap with his "confidentiality" defense. It is a big deal because this is the beginning of the end of Tressel as OSUs football coach. He has been caught in a lie of exponential magnitude. He knowingly violated NCAA rules by not reporting it, but reported it to someone "outside" the program to try to get his star player some help.

There is no way anyone can think Tressel isn't dirty after this finding. If you don't think so, you are only fooling yourself. His history will now be dug into from the YSU QB years ago, to Clarett, Smith, and now the Tat 5.

Does the guy win games and beat Michigan...yes. Does the guy have a complete aura of "shadyness"...yes.

Will there be ANY way that this wont end with either major violations or Tressel's firing (or both)...no.

No shit and he got a fine and suspension with maybe more coming, again everything you said in your first paragraph is from the first go around. You last line is again insaine, OSU already said they aren't firing tressel how hard is that to understand?

Yes, OSU knew about it previously. However, the fans and boosters didn't. I would imagine Tressel still has support of the fan base, but if he starts to lose that support he then is much easier to let go.

Tressel is great for OSU because he wins games, but also because Boosters love him and he's a good ambassador for the University. But if people start questioning his integrity and start to think he's a liar, then nothing is off limits.
