I took both Utah St and Gonzaga to the Sweet 16. Might be a big mistake, but I just think that region is gonna be crazy.

This is my favorite slate of games tomorrow. Probably because I have all upsets in store for my bracket, Zags, MSU, Utah St and Mizzou. Gonzaga (as well as Belmont in this region) going at least to S16.

I personally can't pick any of these games with certainty. I ended up taking Michigan State, Gonzaga, Cincinnati, and Utah State in these games.

I have the same picks for the late games(Zags,MSU,Utah St., and Mizzou). However, I can't believe a guy w/ your knowledge of CBB bought into the Belmont hype.

I have big money on Utah State tonight.

Not only can they win, but especially with Jacob Pullen questionable.

Most betting sites USU is getting 3 points, but the spread has slowly lowered since the Pullen news.

I'd still bet them straight up.

You know. I was positive a 13 would win. I had Belmont losing and Morhead winning. Woke up and switched. FML.

BUT, I stand pat on my thought they are a good team. They stuck with Tennessee twice this year @UT, and won 30 freaking games. They just ran into a bad match-up and I didnt go with my gut (that Wisky has an Elite 8 team this year. Now they will beat Pitt and my bracket will go to hell.

My problem w/ Belmont was this, they don't have that one player to go to when they need a big shot, and you absolutely need that in the tourney to pull the upset. Also, I think Wisky is a Final Four type of team, as they have all the parts to make a deep run.

Who have they beat all year honestly? They are a good team but there was never a doubt in my mind that Wisconsin would handle them, people look too deeply for upsets, and thats why their brackets suck normally.

I don't really agree with that. Murray State and Cornell both did pretty well without that last season. They were just experienced and solid across the board.

It was an unfortunate match up for Belmont, but I'm still surprised they lost by as many as they did.

They didnt beat anybody, but they also didnt LOSE to anybody. That was not a bad pick, imo...no matter how bad the result ended up.

4 loses (2 @Tennessee, and 1 @Vandy). All single digits. It was not out of the question to expect that team to come into a neutral site place and win versus a team who struggles to score often.

Who did Murray St beat last year? Who did Morehead St beat this year? Who did Wisc-Milwaukee beat when they went to the S16 years ago?

I'm not sayin' you have to have that, I'm just sayin' that when I pick my big upsets, that's one of the criteria I use.

I know they were a good team, but we have all seen how good Wisconsin has looked all year. That Milwaukee team had a lot of talent, Ed Mccants and Boo Tucker, Morehead has an NBA player in Faried. I just didn't see it with Belmont, people are trying to find upsets, even if it goes against their instincts.

Check that, I ended up taking St. John's over the 'Zags.

I dig.

On to the game in progress... Michigan State basically looks how they did all season so far. Not very good. They'll probably have 4 of the top 6 players on the court at just about all times tonight though, so I'm still expecting them to get the W in the end.

Just something to note. The last two years 2009 and 2010, if you took all of the higher ranked seeds in the first round not including the 8/9 or 7/10 games you would've at least won 19 games.

And then you would have the eight other games (8/9 and 7/10) left. Depending on how you did in those games you could have anywhere between 19 and 27 wins of a possible 32.

Usually around 24-8 in the opening round is solid.

I didn't follow that plan but I reviewed it. I hate that situation where you miss the 12/5 upset but then the 13/4 has an upset and you lose twice.

I've always thought that picking the favorites throughout the first round(other than 8/9 and 7/10) gave you the best chance of winning your pool. Also, I rarely take an upset past one win.
