Okay Rider fans I talked with a couple of the assistants on the floor last night after the game and this what they had to say about Ursuline when they went to watch them earlier this week. The 6'9 kid was not even dressed, but they have a lefty that is 6'6 that can play, a really quick guard that likes to drive, and another kid that is a soph that can shot the 3 ball, another starter is 6'4. Not real deep but very aggressive and athletic. Can not wait for Wednesday.

Starters:
PG: Senior Khiree Gregory and Junior Ralph Naples usually run the PG Position: Gregory is the best pure jump-shooter I've seen in quite some time at Ursuline. He LOVES to drive the lane and shoot it and he is very accurate at just that. Naples runs the Irish offense very nicely. He doesn't score too too much, but he has the ability to knock down some jumpers too.
SG: Senior Atiim Smith and Sophomore Ryan Strollo are the shooting guards: Smith is tough to stop when he gets hot. Strollo is well over 90% at the line and deadly from 3-point range. Two of his threes last night would be out near NBA range.
F: Senior Devonte Jenkins: 6'6 Kid is a player. Doesn't miss from down low, gets a ton of rebounds, solid at the free throw line, and gave Campbell fits all night on the defensive end. In the two losses I saw Ursuline have in person this year to Mooney and New Castle, PA; he committed quite a few turnovers. When he keeps those at a minimum, he plays great ball.

From an article in the Massillon Independant from earlier this year (after Massillon lost to Ursuline)

"Senior DeVonte Jenkins is one of those “nice” players for Ursuline. The 6-foot-6 Jenkins led the Irish, now 5-2, with a game-high 22 points. Teammate Jalem Lowe, a 6-9 bruiser, came off the bench to score 11 points.

The Irish’s outside game was pretty efficient as well thanks to guards Khiree Gregory and Ryan Stollo. Gregory scored 17 points, getting several of his baskets off penetration into the lane, while Stollo drained four 3-pointers to account for much of his 18 points."

Sounds like they have size & height down low...a facilitating PG who can score, and a 3-pt threat in Stollo. Tough matchup for Orrville.

Jalem Lowe will not be playing .. Grades.... We have the size advantage inside. Hopefully we can take advantage again.

And by "we" you mean Orrville has the size advantage, right? It read confusing to me.

Wow, good to know, he was probably a lot like the 6'9" guy from Mansfield Senior...but glad we don't have to worry about him.

Sounds like a lot of gifted athletes will be on the court Wednesday and could possibly turn into dunk fest 2.0:

Jalen is a very good player, he has yet to reach his potential and he is still growing. Being 6'9'' really changes the game for the Irish especially when they are in a 2-3 with him, its really tough to shoot over him. I really wish we still had him, he was getting better and better every game. Good thing for us is he is only a junior.

How big is Orrville?

Orrville starters are 6'9", 6'5", 6'3", 5'11", 5'11". First off the bench 5'10', 6'5". That's right off the OCC site.

I'll go a little bit more in depth for you.....We have used just about every combination of players and tried one final combination the last regular season game and have won 5 straight games.

Starters:
Zach Wasson: 6'5" SR leading scorer, Malone University Basketball commit. 20 ppg 7 rebounds/game
Devon Winters: 6'9" JR, has made progress all year long on being more of a pressence in the paint, but still a little raw and needs to beef up. 6 ppg 7 rebonds/game
Drew Brenner: 6'3" JR, I think he has grown, probably closer to 6'4" imo....amazing athletic ability and a high energy player that will give you everything he's got. 6 ppg 5 rebounds/game
Stewart Turner: 5'11" JR, fastest guy in the school, didn't make impact until end of year. Good defender and can pick your pockets, streaky when it comes to scoring. 3 ppg 2 rebounds/game
Jordan Ray: 5'11" SR, serviceable point guard that has made a slight improvement all year...3 ppg 2 rebounds/game

Bench:
Max Pirman: 6'5" SR, Started most of the season, high energy player Nebraska football commit plays physical and has a good mid-range shot. 7 ppg 4 rebounds/game
Jonathan Landis: 5'11" SO, Moved up from JV late in the season more of a passer than a shooter who runs offense pretty good, father is assistant coach. 1 ppg 1 rebound/game
Alex Smith: 6'3" SO, Grandson of legendary Orrville Coach Smitty. Probably the best outside shooter on the team who got moved up late in the year. 1 ppg 1 rebound/game
Ryan Neer: 6'4" SO, Great mid-range shooter who made the move from JV late in the season. 5 ppg 2 rebounds/game


We struggled all year with our guard play, but since the last game of the regular season these 9 guys have been playing some good basketball and really shocking a lot of people including Orrville fans.....finishing 7-13 in the regular season not too many people thought we would win a district title. Coach Slaughter is a great coach and knows how to get his teams to play good basketball and peak at the right time of the year.

Hey you guys quit lying about us in your scouting reports, you know we are a bunch of misfits that can't dribble and chew gum, slow, short and can't play, that's what we been hearing all year so tell the truth to Irish fans. LOL Oh yeah and we haven't had a coach for a couplee of years. HAHA

How about getting his grades in order first.No matter how good he may be or potentially be if he cannot cut it in the classroom should not be on the floor.How do student athletes get in if they are borderline students and I am not naive to the fact he is 6'9"

Athletic talent (if only even perceived) > Academic Standards...pretty simple.

Pretty simple today but what about tomorrow and in life.This young man is probably not going to the NBA but with his size could go to many different colleges and make a good life down the road for himself.First must realize, as the administrators and counselors should also, grades are important going forward.I am not saying he needs to be a straight "A" student but maintaining a "C" average should be attainable with effort.
