This whole thing is obviously two issues.
1. Why didn't Tressel alert someone of the emails
2. He lied to the NCAA
#2 is bad and is going to be punished more severely by the NCAA than what OSU self imposed.
What develops from #1 is what will tell the fate of Tressel and answer most peoples questions Someone mentioned on here that Tressel was the AD at YSU, and I think that's a factor that can't be ignored. Tressel is as aware of compliance as anyone. For him to say he didn't know who to go to with the emails is just him simply hiding something.

The reason Ohio State has a compliance office and all of these attorneys who are employed and retained by them is to ensure the Ohio State University is protected from criminal and civil liability. In other words, it is Tress's responsibility to report it to them and it is their job to figure out how to A) use that information so not to endanger any pending investigation any other agency may be doing and b) to ensure that OSU protects itself from NCAA and any other civil penalties they may face.

Huh? Numerous articles have said that the agents investigating Rife brought the issue of the memorabilia that they seized to OSU's attention because they thought that the stuff might be stolen.
