I love it.
Nothing worse than public humiliation.

Mother's like this give me hope for the future. Such a shame that they are outweighed by the idiots of the world.

I remember as a kid I was fascinated with fire. We had an electric stove at home but grandma had a gas stove. One night I stayed at grandma's house and thought it would be a good idea to turn on a burner. Then I thought it would be a good idea to take one of my stuffed animals and act like he was flying over the fire. He got a bit damaged from the flames and to teach me a lesson she safety pinned him to my shirt and I had to wear it around for a day at school. Simple. Effective. I have no problem with a little public humiliation.

If the mom didn't care, she wouldn't do anything at all.

I would have hit him with something while wearing the sign as cars drove by, but to each their own.

Yeah, and she needs to do it now while he's under age and she still has control. I'm pretty sure if I went to Kent State and put a sign on my kid it wouldn't fly. But that might stop me from trying. ;)

I'll go against the majority on this one... numerous studies have shown that positive reinforcement is far more effective in changing behavior.

I don't think what she did is right or effective. But there is undoubtedly more to this story that the article reports so it's impossible to say she is a horrible mother or anything like that.

If parents are resorting to something like this than they failed way earlier along in the process.... that's just my opinion.

Agree that there is likely more to the story, but from what we know it appears she didn't put the kid in any sort of danger, child services should not be an issue. A 1.22 GPA takes talent (on the wrong end of the talent spectrum). So your kid refuses to study or attempt to learn anything in school, what is the solution? If anything, this is pretty reasonable. My solution would be military school! Even the best parents have rotten kids.

you figure parents would start to learn that shit like this, no matter how small or trivial the punishment is, doesnt really fly. I understand the point of the punishment, and it is a rather creative one, but still.

How about a 1.1 GPA ... without any 'F's. I pulled that one my first semester of college, before I took my education seriously.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming:

While I do think that there was something that could have prevented this in the first place, I don't have a problem with what was done.

I agree with this. Parents try to be friends with their kids, or are too lazy to raise them right, then realize in high school that isn't the best way to raise a kid. Too late too often.

I remember a kid I umpired with that was forced by a judge to wear an orange shirt that read, "Watch me close - I am a thief."

He was later convicted of murder.

Very sneaky of him. Get them all looking one way and then go in an entirely opposite direction.
