She did it at work, doesn't matter what she said she should be disciplined for it since the first sentence shows that she knew what she was doing was wrong.

I think many teachers would like to write a book about what life in the classroom is really like. The problem is that no one would believe it unless they too had been a teacher. The things this young woman wrote about her students should not have been written in such a public manner, but I appreciate what she is saying.

Kids are over-protected, enabled, not held responsible for anything, they are rude, uncaring, disrespectful, and that just scratches the surface. They have absentee parents and often times, folding money replaces the parent. They do the wrong thing over and over and parents bring their lawyers so that their little darling doesn't have to stand up and admit what they did was wrong and apologize to the person (s) involved.

I should tell you that I very rarely had any problem with a student in my career. I'm not bragging, I'm just telling you the truth, but if I were to be at the beginning again, I don't think I'd teach. People think I make too much money, they think I get three months off every year, they think that I'm literally on the government dole, they think anyone can do my job. If I were at the beginning again, you could have my job before I started.

And before I stop this lengthy diatribe, I should say that there are still wonderful families who insist that their children show respect, do their own work, study for tests, be responsible, be punctual, be good examples for their younger brothers and sisters, and simply be good people. The problem is that these kinds of kids are becoming candidates for the endangered species list. The reason? Primarily it's non-caring and uninvolved parents. They only seem to care two days before the grades come out or when the police call your house to announce that your kids are in custody and you need to come and get them. And I'm not talking about you. I'm talking about the others.

I don't. She's a bitch and a psychopath. Even if her students were the rottenest kids in public schools, her comments went way beyond anything halfway professional. Read them again. Most of them are petty and have nothing to do with their performance or behavior. She's plain mean.

She isn't a martyr, she's an idiot.

BTW, this one in particular bothered me:

"Nowhere near as good as her sibling. Are you sure they're related?"

What a mean cunt - she should be fired immediately. Petty, stupid and an embarrassment to teachers.

If you haven't been in a high school during the school day in the last 13,14,15 years, I honestly believe you would be amazed.

^^^Even the last 5 years.

From the time I graduated to the time I started working, things have drastically changed.

Yeah, I work with a lot of high school kids, and I'm floored at some of the differences even in the last nine years, since I graduated.

Some teachers are great. Some are awful. Both are protected from being let go. Both get paid on the same pay grade.

That's an awesome system. Even more so since you are special enough that you shouldn't have to earn your paycheck with a performance ... but instead you should be able to earn it by doing the bare minimum to stay employed for as many years as you can until you retire.
ccrunner609;682314 wrote:Let me tell all of you, it aint gonna help. This lady not only was keeping it real, she was spittin the truth.
No disagreement there. What she said is largely the truth, and she is free to speak the truth ...

... and the school is free to fire her for being a dumbass about how she did it.

Yes, but heaven forbid we change it to make it more competitive.

The majority of student behavior is a reflection of:
1. Their parents or 2. Their self-inflated sense of how great they think they are or 3. The limits the teacher set or did not set. or 4. A combination of all 3. If you jump down the throat of the first kid that looks cross-eyed at you then this usually takes care of the rest of them. Clear, concise expectations on behavior and clear, concise consequences usually take care of the majority of the issues. Don't keep it real. Keep it professional.

Bingo.

I work with about fifteen kids who live here in North Hill. Most have a history of getting in trouble at school.

None have a history of giving me trouble over the last two years, except one who was no longer welcome after week 3.

I have only read one page on this thread, so far, but I just gotta say...as a teacher...I found the comments.........pretty good! She shouldn't have done it on school time, though. I find it ironic that many of the posts come from other's "work time".

OK. I just read through pages 2 and 3. Wow! Some stunning and thought provoking comments. I picked out this one:

I am a year away from retiring at 35 (years, that is). I have seen it all. I am actually thinking about writing a book.

What constitutes due process in this situation?

I admit, I'm completely ignorant of what that entails.

He was probably referring to the standard "9 to 5" time. Not everyone works during those hours, but the odds that NONE of the people posting here do are slim to nil.

It's not THAT she told the truth. It's HOW she told the truth.

People say the same about LeBron James. It's not THAT he left Cleveland. It's HOW he left Cleveland. ;)

Your boss might be a dick, but you can't tell him that (or post it online) and expect to not get fired.
