Fab, I feel your pain. All of the above are major pet peeves of mine. I don't claim to be perfect with English and grammar, but Damn! Some of the posts I read just make me want to smack someone! LOL

Nah. 1th.

I'm actually with you on this, Fab. It drives me up the wall to see the word "of" instead of "have" in the examples you gave.

The worst, though, is when people say "supposably." I want to pull their head off and throw it in front of a Mack truck.

"Would of," "could of," should of" . . . are you kidding me? I am easily annoyed (maybe too easily annoyed) with mistakes like this, but I just don't get how people can think this is correct, or how they can let this slide when they see it. I mean, would it make sense to use would've, could've, or should've if it was "of" instead of "have?" No. What grade do we learn things like this? I can't ever remember a time when I didn't know it.

Sorry, but I just had to rant about this. We all have our pet peeves.

P.S. Why do people get pissed when you correct them on things like this? If I make a mistake I would prefer someone tell me so I don't go around sounding/looking like an idiot.

There, I corrected all (or at least most) of your grammatical errors. ;)

No, and punctuation marks should always fall inside of quotation marks, never outside.

I was almost an English major in college, so simple grammar mistakes are one of my biggest pet peeves. It is easily the most annoying thing on message boards. Usually if a post has multiple mistakes I don't finish reading it.

I think that everyone should be required to own and read a copy and Strunk and White's The Elements of Style.

Seriously though, I didn't know that about the punctuation. I thought that only applied when you are actually quoting what a person said. Doesn't seem right if I would have typed "Their?". :D
