I do. I'm there quite frequently. I've also been to Easton, though.

I'm not trying to start a big argument or anything. The word "ghetto" just gets thrown around a lot, when the reality is, most places that are called "ghetto" don't really fit it in a true sense. I'd say Easton is one of those. It gets called ghetto a lot, but around some places, it'd seem like Scranton, Pennsylvania.

I do find that hard to believe, I guess its just most of the incidents are in certain parts of the city.

And I live 9 miles from there and my office is there. Now who's opinion would you take more? SOmeone who lives very close and works there daily, or someone who visits a few times per year?

And trust me, I used to do work in the most dangerous precinct in Columbus (Cleveland Ave to the East, Karl rd to the West, 161 to the north and Morse to the south. Forrest Park/Northland area) so I am not just saying that the only area I have ever been to that has some crime is Ghetto.

Find what hard to believe? 7th most dangerous out of cities 500k+?

Columbus proper has MAJOR crime issues.

I'm not saying it doesn't it obviously does the stats don't lie. It is just different as most of the crime takes place in certain areas for the most part and not all over.

Depends. As I said before, the problem with asking people who live somewhere is, they typically have a narrow scope. Ask people in North Hill if it's ghetto? They'll often tell you yes (crime + Section 8 housing run amok), and they have lived here most of (or all of, in some cases) their lives.

If you think it's ghetto, that's fine. No sense in discussing it further. Just, I've seen too many other places that belong an entire tier below Easton in terms of the microculture.

Eh, mainly it is all over Columbus proper minus small parts of the East and west sides and Clintonville. Most of the nicer areas are not actually Columbus. Hell, even the Short North and German Village still are having B&E issues.

Just because 1 area is worse than another doesn't mean they aren't both the ghetto. That's like saying between dark red and bright red, only dark red can be called red.

Nothing like a good ol' B&E.

This happened at a friend's house a block from here about a month ago. We were over, but we were all down in the basement. Heard noise upstairs. Went up and saw the guy run out the front door, the deadbolt of which had been busted.

Scary when it happens.

Of course.

I was talking "not in the ballpark" kind of difference. Hence the Scranton, PA comment before.

Either way, I feel silly for having actually had this conversation. LOL!

It's a shady place. I don't think anyone can disagree with that.

Point taken. I guess I was generalizing Franklin County as a whole.

Same here. The Marcus on 256. We never go to Easton for Movies anymore. Hell, I think the only reason we go there anymore for pleasure is to go to te Tender Box and Fado.

Certainly not. You're racist when you go on paragraph long diatribes using derogatory terms for black people every 5 words though.

I live near Easton.
LJ;676708 wrote:yet on another local forum, people from all walks of life who live in Columbus agree that Easton gets very ghetto at night.
Probably because most people who regularly visit Easton have no concept of what a "ghetto" is.
LJ;676708 wrote:It's not being racist or anything like that, it is just the truth. They have their own security force and hire as many special duty CPD as they possibly can, and they still cannot control the problems they have.
Just to be clear, I by no means think you're racist. I just think you're off in thinking Easton is anywhere near "ghetto" status. I regularly walk back to my car from Easton at night, and have never felt the least bit in danger. Are there lower class people hanging around there? Sure. But that doesn't make it "a ghetto."

I suppose it's just semantics, but I'd reserve a term like "ghetto" for somewhere other than a nice shopping mall in Columbus, Ohio.
