Had my first Crooked Stave last night, pretty impressive. Finished the night off with a Black Butte XXIV. Soooo fucking good and smooth with a year on it. Wish I had another.

Another beer activity in Cincy this weekend. I might just try to hit this one after we get the car serviced, as it's only a few miles from the dealership. --> http://www.wcpo.com/dpp/news/region_east_cincinnati/blue_ash/battle-of-the-beers-2013-local-brewers-face-off-for-best-beer-in-cincinnati-title

My parents are going to Florida tonight for the weekend, I'm going to try and have them hunt down some Cigar City to bring back.

Started last night with some Stone Ruination and GL Monster. Proceeded into some ST Creme Brule, Holy **** that stuff is sweet. WOW. It was like drinking something from Starbucks. So I then venture into the good ol Rogue Chocolate/PB/Banana Ale, all because Curly told me too!!!
We finished the bottle and it was a lot better than the Bacon Maple but still not much to rave about. Got a lot of Banana on the nose and in taste w/ some chocolate on the back end but no PB, unless that was supposed to be the subtle smokiness in there.

Picked up a bottle of The Buery Tart of Darkness, looking forward to drinking that later. Been wanting to try it for a while now, hope its worth the $20.

Had the option between Green Flash's Barleywine, Lagunitas Lucky 13, and Lagunitas IPA.
I picked the barleywine ... because I love good barleywines. Didn't hurt that the bomber was under $6 with tax.
It's solid and steady.

Out of those three I would have chose the same.O-Trap;1481841 wrote:Had the option between Green Flash's Barleywine, Lagunitas Lucky 13, and Lagunitas IPA.

Drinking the Tart of Darkness now and it sure is tart. I love a good sour and this hits the spot, but part of me is a bit let down because I'm not getting much 'Stout' out of it unlike JP Madrugada Obscura which was balanced perfectly. Overall it's still very good.

As a plus, it was also the cheapest.BORIStheCrusher;1481891 wrote:Out of those three I would have chose the same.
Perhaps I need to get into sours. It's one area that I've left mostly alone. I've had one lambic in my life. It was mega-fruity ... too fruity for my taste.BORIStheCrusher;1481891 wrote:Drinking the Tart of Darkness now and it sure is tart. A friend of mine wants to try this, but really can't afford it. I told him Santa J would make sure he got some. Haven't bought it yet, but I will...oh I will because I want to try it again.

You have to get a true Lambic Sour. A whole different experience in beer. I love them. Nothing like wild fermentation as I can't get enough of that style. The fruity is not the same. It's more of a chick beer.

My buddy just dropped off a 6 of Sweetwater 420 from his vacation in Myrtle. I love this beer.

Currently having a Shroominous. Brown ale brewed with shiitake mushrooms and having a Mushroom Pizza. Earthiness overload.

Ah, fun story. A one-time JV partner of mine (from over the pond) sent me a bottle of Sink the Bismarck. THICK alcohol smell. The taste was pretty complex as I recall. Think dessert (like fucking Candyland: chocolate, caramel, and black licorice) mixed with hops and some grain alcohol. Thankfully, while you could taste the booze, it didn't overpower the rest.Commander of Awesome;1481714 wrote:Saw this list of Top 10 most expensive beers. Anyone try any of these?

All in all, it was the kind of beer you had to be in a mood for, and it was far too much for any season but the winter. Still, it was pretty damn good. Not worth the price, maybe, but pretty damn good, nonetheless.

Anyone ever had Ommegang's Gnomegang? It's on tap at the local Giant Eagle. Thinking of getting a growler.
