Having a Smuttynose IPA tonight. Heard good things about it, and it isn't disappointing.

I wouldn't call what I wrote was a great review. I'm glad I got to try it none the less. It was different. I have to admit I was really looking forward to trying it since it is so different/rare. It was somewhat if a let down. I'm sure it wasn't the first time with a beer and won't be my last.

Just got some Lake Erie Monster at the local store on our way home from the Airport. I'm sure a couple of those will be gone tonight.

Smuttynose IPA is my go to beer. I really enjoy it.

Smuttynose IPA is pretty damn good. Their pumpkin beer might be my favorite.

I have only ever had one pumpkin beer and didn't care for it at all. I guess that is why there are so many varieties of beer available, because not everyone likes the same thing.

We went to the Taste of Cincinnati last weekend and partook in the beer tasting they had on Saturday. We're not big snobs when it comes to beer and don't really like the heavy hopped-up styles. It was pretty cool with the guy giving us background info on the breweries and how they brew the beers. They had quite a large range of styles, from a Miller Lite (WTF?) to Lienenkugel Big Eddy. The two we liked the best were:


- Great tasting beer! 5.5 ABV


- Unique in that its a blend between beer and Chardonnay. 8.5 ABV

For some reason I've never picked this up; I love pumpkin beers as well as Smuttynose. I will be sure to try it out.

It took me a long time to get into pumpkin beers, maybe a couple years. Couldn't find any I liked... then I had Pumpking.

I fucking love pumpkin beers. My favorite is Saranac Pumpkin Ale. It's like drinking a pumpkin roll. Not expensive either. I'll buy at least 2 cases of it this Fall. I tried Weyerbacher's Imperial Pumpkin Ale last year. That's great too but a bit expensive ($13.99 for a 4-pk if I remember correctly). I will get some Pumking this year. Can't wait to try it.

DFH Punkin' Ale was pretty good too. Had that last year as well and enjoyed it.

vdubb- It was incredibly refreshing and so easy to drink. It would go as well with a bratt as it would with a dinner you would normally have wine with. Simply incredible. A great summertime brew. Not heavy, but the alcohol can sneak up on you if you're not careful! I'd definitely recommend it, especially if you're out on a date with someone who isn't into boutique beers and heavy IPAs. We picked up some across the river in St. Thomas, Kentucky on our way home. 24oz bottle, $9. Not sure if its available here in Stark County or not.

We had some awesome Pumpkin Ale at a microbrewery in Manchester, NH. They served it with cinnamon sugar around the lip of the glass and it tasted great! For the life of me I can't remember the name. Unfortunately, most of the other pumpkin we had out east was terrible.

Anyone try Infinium? I walked by a beer store last night I haven't been to in a while (now I remember why) and they had it on the shelf. Thought it looked interesting until I saw it over $20 for a bottle.

Got home and looked it up, only to find its actually made by Sam Adams, but has a poor score on Beer Advocate.

I have several times. Scroll back a few pages. I still have a bottle of it and it should be drank by July of this year. I actually liked it.

This store still has Double Bastard; 2011 & 2010 even. However the store is pretty warm, and the their on the top shelf with fluorescent lighting so I doubt they've aged very well. Thus why I didn't buy them all.

Have you had the one flavor of Blue Moon that's in, I think, one of their variety packs? Might have been a winter one. I got it because a couple of us at work had read about the Trappist Monks brews and this variety pack had an abbey ale that could be considered a gateway to that kind of beer (as in, not elite, but a good cheaper indication of whether you'd like it). The best of the four brands in the pack was a Spiced Amber Ale which I thought was awesome. Possibly my favorite of the alternate varieties of the more well-known brands of beer.

Not to sound like a dick but I doubt Coors makes anything like any of the Trappist breweries. I would suggest actually trying some out.

Oh no, it wasn't. A review I read basically said that the BM Abbey Ale was little more than an entry-level thing where if you liked it, you might want to check out the real stuff. And that's all it was. Just enough to intrigue me into sometime looking for something a bit more legitimate.

Yeah, those monks brew some of the best stuff in the world and 'most' of it's pretty easy to get. Westvleteren just needs to get on board with the others.

Got any suggestions? I'm not familiar with monk beers that I'm aware of.
