What are the thoughts about next years football season? Any surprises in how teams will do? Will Hillsdale repeat? Or will the youth of Northwestern and Norwayne pay off? Any word on who is going to be the new coach at Rittman?

Rittman will go back to perpetually rebuilding.
Hillsdale has some question marks and some big shoes to fill.
Northwestern will do better than anticipated, they always find a way.
Smithville will make The Godfather proud his last season on the sidelines ( my prediction).
Waynedale will see the benefits of playing all those young kids last season.
Chippewa will be just like Chippewa.
Norwayne will not surprise anyone just keep on winning.
Dalton needs to find players, nice runs the past couple of years but the cupboard is now officially bare.

I agree with you there - although some people said that this past season so who knows.

They didn't stay healthy though, so who knows. ^^^ I know that is an excuse, it just stinks wondering what could have been. I look at major college and Nfl teams that get down to their third quarterback and linebackers, and the performance goes way down.

Loosing Bates and Roesler was huge, 2 best players on team. No team can afford to loose their 2 or 3 best and expect to contend in the WCAL.

my early predictions.....

8.Rittman (nice jv quartbeack this year, that's about it)
7.Chippewa (could possibly beat dalton, but not much coming back as well)
6.Dalton (Moyer will definitely have to carry the load this year)
5.Northwestern (Losing forbes, neer, bejecks, and mckean is a huge loss)
4.Waynedale (A couple linemen to replace but they should be back to the middle of the pack)
3.Hillsdale (Still very talented with cline, licata, and their fullback...but im not seeing a repeat)
2.Norwayne (they just have so much depth to go with wallace and the zimmerlys)
1.Smithville (if they remain healthy, steiner, bates, and hilty along with the whole line except meadows)

i could be way off though

heres my picks
1. Hillsdale- they have a nice program going there and the kids seem to just keep getting bigger
2. Smithville- Hilty and steiner are tough players and i look for them to have a big season
3. Norwayne- with the loss of several key lineman they wont be as tough and will slip up on some guys
4.Waynedale- Had some young talented players last year, i think they will make some noise
5. Rittman- New coach and some new players along with a new QB to replace Bauman. The kids are starting to buy into the new coach also
6. Northwestern- They just lost to many seniors to be a contender but could still make some noise
7. Dalton- Another team with many seniors graduating. The loss of lint, hackett, and blevins will be a blow for the bulldogs
8. Chippewa- Went 0-10 with their best players all graduating, i think the chipps will have another rough season ahead of them

i don't mean this in a malicious way, but rittman is starting to buy into the coach? How do you "buy in" a week after he is hired in the off-season. Did they have a team meeting and the coach said everyone work hard and we can be good and they all said OK? (Not saying he won't be a great coach).

Smithville did just that during much of their big 10-year stretch. Seemed to just churn out new ones to replace the old ones.

My early picks for the WCAL:
1. Smithville
1. Norwayne
(Tie for the league championship and the Smithies send Schrock out as a champion)

2. Waynedale
3. Northwestern
4. Hillsdale
(These 3 could finish in any order here, all have had very good success the past few years and could build on that winning tradition, but this is how I see them ending up)

5. Dalton
6. Rittman
7. Chippewa
(Bottom third of the league, just too much rebuilding and lack of talent happening to be in the hunt)

i dont see norwayne in the top 2.. they lost way to much on their line and wallace makes everyone nervous everytime he drops back to pass, the zimmerlys are pretty good but how good are you gonna be with an undersized line. Smithville or Hillsdale is my pick for number 1. Smithvilles line was huge last year and they have them all coming back along with some good backs

I believe Northwest has Orrville, John Hay , and Canton South in their first 3 games.

Fairless replaces St. Thomas Aquinas in week 3 for Smithville.

Norwayne has the same 3 as last season. Home against Wellington then at CVCA and Western Reserve.

Fairless is a nice pick up for the Smithies. Confidence builder on the field, and some points from a D3 school for the 2-3 games they will win.
