I have always contended that small schools seem to get talent in waves. Dalton had a ton of talent in this year's senior class (not unlike a lot of schools in the area), and now a few lean years are in store talent wise. With that being said, if there is one school that has proven they can do more with less, it is Dalton. Those kids are just wired differently.
This will be a challenging season for the second year coach. Can he inspire the troops like Bob could?

you are right about the talent in waves at small schools and also right about dalton doing more with less. really, all schools, large and small go in waves - the ups and downs are often just more pronounced in smaller schools. What shows you over time if a school has a good coach/program is even in those down waves, the team is still competitive (even in a 2 or 3 win season). That's what Ramsay was able to do and hopefully it will be that way with billker.

One thing with Ramsay was you always knew what you were going to get (for better or worse) I like the fact that Billker didn't come in and change a whole lot of stuff, he kept things kind of the way they had been. I think eventually he will start implementing more of his type of football into the program, but I certainly respect him for how He handled his first year with the kids.

i heard the samething about jake i look for moyer to be qb1486wd;705771 wrote:yea, the freshman did hold their own last year fairly well. I actually think they will be ok on the line, but the skill positions are definitely worrisome, especially at qb. I had heard that masters may not be allowed to play due to concussions and he has been the jv qb the last 2 years. if that's the case, you will be going in with someone at qb with no varsity and almost no jv experience - that's tough.

Thats what I was thinking about the QB situation. I am curious to what kind of offense we will run. One way or another it will be a running offense.

The 2011 WCAL campaign will be another enigma. In 2010 almost everyone (save Hillsdale & Norwayne) failed to live up to regular season expectations, then out of the blue come 3 first round playoff wins....Go figure!
I completely expect most of us armchair QBs to get it wrong again this year, HOWEVER, since I'm originally from Strongsville (A true D1 football power) that makes my me.....well, almost as arrogant and deluded as some of the Orrville dolts on here like riders1. The stangs' would hang 50 on the helpless D4 Riders...playing Strongsvilles JV would be a better match (just sayin').
Anyway, now that I've expounded on why I know more than everyone else....
Here goes...
1.Norwayne.....their youth is coming of age
2.Smithville.....used up all their bad luck, will return to glory in 11'
3.Waynedale....yep, da Bears will get back to winning this year
4.Hillsdale.....not as good as in 10', but still top half of league
5.Northwestern....young, small & untested
6.Dalton....same as Northwestern, only fewer players.
7.Rittman....winning the Big Chief trophy keeps them out of last
8.Chippewa.....losing to Rittman keeps them in last.

Strongsville would hang 50 on Orrville in the first half. But comparing a D1 team to a D4 team is an apples to peanut butter comparison.
Despite my family connection (see my posts on the "who is the best player in the WCAL in the last 10 years thread") I will take Smithville to win the league.
Go green and white, right bloody?

Yeah, we would have absolutely no chance against the prestigious and powerful football program of Strongsville that always makes deep playoff runs year in and year out.....but I would love to see a game between the two schools
We aren't affraid to play anyone...that's confidence not arrogance.
Ringz, the real football power Cardinal Mooney couldn't even score 50 on an average Orrville defense in one half (it took them the entire game with starters in and going for two point conversions late in the game to get their 50)....what makes you think Strongsville could? lol
ok, carry on with WCAL talk
I don't think the winner of the league will go a perfect 7-0 in league play....probably 1 loss maybe 2, but I see the Smithies taking the crown back to send Schrock out on top.

Nice try Bloody and Ringz
I think the league champion will have one maybe even 2 league losses.....but in the end the Smithies get the crown back and send Schrock out on top.

i have heard billker favors more of an I formation type offense, but stuck with quite a bit of option this year to take advantage of his teams strengths. One thing you can always expect with a young team like dalton will be next year and tha'ts straight ahead running.

they don't have to many option but run straight ahead. the line going to be young with good size so that's going to be are strong point , not going to have speed like we had over the last couple yrs to get outside.

i see smithville winning the league this year with hillsdale the runnerups! Norwayne will not be as good as they were in 2010, i see them going 6-4 maybe 7-3. in 2010 they were lucky to sneak out some wins (waynedale, wellington, cvca,). their line will be small and quarterback is too inconsistant for 2011. With smithvilles whole line back along with quarterback and all 3 runningbacks i see them winning it all!

Ringz, get ready...Note the Smithie teams of the 2000's.....wing-t offense....huge numbers, a lot of points, 6 straight wcal championships, 7 straight trips to the playoffs, and state runner-up in 02 ( which if they would've kept the ball on the ground VIA the wing-t, they could've joined Orrville as the only two county teams to win football titles)
Yes I would call coach schrock's wing-t offense dangerous when you have the right athletes on the roster.
Oh and one last thing...how many playoff games has Triway won with that "Air Titan" offense?

Haha.....same here. I always loved the suspense of when they would call the double handoff that would go for 6 every single time. In 01 and 02 my dad (smithville alum) and I went to a lot of Smithville games, and all of their playoff games from 00-06.

in some ways, I think a good wing t or option attack has actually increased in effectiveness in the last couple years due to the novelty of it. Teams simply aren't used to defending it with all the spread offenses these days.

absolutely! Also teams with the right athletes (running QB, speedy RB, bruising FB, do it all wing back) it makes it hard to defend especially with all the misdirection and not knowing where the ball is. I know when Orrville played Dover they ran the spread, but if they wanted to throw us off they would get into the wing-t and it causes you to really prepare well for it.

I saw many wcal games in the last couple of years and I think that hillsdales offense might be the toughest to stop. They always have a fast guy that runs the jet sweep that u have to keep an eye on and if u pay to much attention to that they will give it to their big fullback for 7 yards or hit you on a seam route from the wingbacks.

that is really the identical offense that dalton runs. I also think the personnel had more than a little to do with hillsdale's success.
