BYU is ranked #1 in the RPI.

In the Big Ten you don't play everyone twice.

BYU could beat Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Northwestern, Penn St.

They would have tough games with Illinois and Minnesota.

But you are right, I don't see them beating OSU, Wisky, Purdue, and Sparty

Let's say they wouldnt play best team and worst team...OSU and Iowa...that would give them 9 losses still.

I think his numbers will drop(not by much though) since the freshman(Shabazz Napier, Jeremy Lamb and Roscoe Smith) are playing really well now. As a Husky fan, I am still waiting on the big men to be consistent.

People mix mid majors in football with the same perception of mid majors in basketball. Basketball is unique, because those mid majors more often than not are not having guys leave early for the pros and at times have much more experienced teams that have been playing together longer. At places like the Big East, there is so much turnover from year to year because of guys leaving school early that you don't have those experienced teams as often.

With that said, the gap isn't nearly as big from a really good mid major and the BCS conferences. Can BYU compete in the Big 10 yearly? No. But every once in a while you get one of those teams like Butler last year that play well together, are well coached, have experience and are as good as most teams across the country regardless of conference affiliation.

If OSU continues to roll, and Sullinger keeps doing what he is doing..he will be in the thick of the POY race. The guy is getting love all over the place around the country. He is consistantly talked about as much if not more than any other player on TV, on the internet as well as ESPN. He may or may not be the best player in the country. But everyone knows as I do, when you are getting that media attention AND your team is on top...that usually plays HUGE in the POY race.

The only thing hurting Sullinger is the fact that the Buckeyes surrounding Sullinger on the floor can win most games they will play without Sullinger. Plus, Sullinger, who could score against just about everybody at will, doesn't need to be out there long enough to pad his statistics for this award. This is a totally individual award and there are others who have to do far more to allow their teams to win than Sullinger does. Therefore, as unfair as it seems, I think it will be very difficult to select him although if his stock and fame continue to grow through more and more exposure, then great...because I think he is very deserving.

Teams shoudl just box and 1 Fredette....the rest of his team is average at best. More of a 1 man team than Kemba Walker lol

Emery and Davies are pretty solid too. Emery had an off night for sure but Davies played pretty well.

If The Jimmer was on TV more, I think he would be the leading candidate for National POY.

I can see byu making a big run in the tourney. They are an experienced team and well they have jimmer who can absolute dominate the game

Agree. There's nobody that does as much for his team, on a good team, that makes them be that good. BYU is good because of Fredette. They're getting a lot of exposure because they're in the top 10 now and just knocked off the #4 team in the country and one of only 2 undefeated teams left in men's basketball. POY is solely an individual award, and as a Buckeye fan, no one deserves it more than Jimmer. Take Sullinger off of OSU's team, and they'd still be a pretty good team....same way with taking someone like Nolan Smith or Kyle Singler off of Duke's team. Take Fredette off of BYU, and they'd struggle to be in the top half of the mountain west, let alone get a 3-5 seed, which is looking pretty much like a lock right now.

Jimmer or Kemba really. They are both really leading their team and dont have the help that Sullinger has. Kemba is surrounded by underclassmen(mostly freshman) and none of them were McDonald's AA's. Sullinger is playing with three 1,000 point scorer's and another AA. Jimmer is just playing out of this world right now.

Yeah but how many top notch defenders does he have to go against? I mean hes good no doubt, but hes playing against a lot of nobodies most nights

Jimmer may have a better shot than Curry because his team is ranked highly. Davidson lost to every good team they played when Curry averaged 28.

Curry averaged 28 his junior year, that was 08-09. Davidson failed to make the Tournament. That is one of the key reasons he didn't win the POY(by the way there are like 283838 of these). Also, there was a guy named Blake Griffin who was playing that year and Tyler Hansbrough. With those 2, no one else really had a shot.

How many great a players from mid-majors do we need to see before we realize who they play doesn't influence their numbers. Look at Curry and Granger in the NBA as recent examples. If they were good because of their competition neither would have made it in the league. Jimmer has put up 40 on a regular basis....I don't care who he plays wit or against, that is ballin!

I couldn't agree more. D1 basketball is big time basketball no matter where your at. Is the MW as good as the Big East, Big Ten or ACC? Absolutely not. But that doesn't mean a kid can't do what he is doing. He may not get his 40 as he is, but he would still be getting his 20+ per game. Freddette is flat out good, and he is getting PLENTY of media attention. Right now, he is the POY. That could change, but I suspect it won't.
BTW, there was a thread started earlier in the season on the OC about the best player. I said then it was Jimmer. Watched him play enough last year to realize he is flat out very good.
