What is your opinion on this issue?
Have you ever seen proof of his existence or are you only going on what the bible tells us?

I am wondering if some people spend more time preaching and waiting for God to help them and guide them and not enough time doing things to help themselves on their own.

Example would be that everytime something good happens people want to thank god first and praise him but when something bad happens they want to ask God why he did this and what they did wrong to deserve this bad thing.

Not sure i hope so....i mean how the heck did we get here??? What is life?? To be sitting here watching a movie on the computer and typing on a message board is very strange compared to how man lived 1000 years ago heck let alone 100 years ago....pretty amazing. I cant believe it all came from a bunch of amino acids in a puddle. however i dont like religions. the only one i ever really felt wasnt completely crooked was jehovah's witnesses....i guess things work to perfectly for there not to be a god but who knows...

I don't believe what the bible says but I believe in a higher power. The definition of God is the question.

A "religion" as a whole cannot, though I certainly do believe that there are many who try to use just about every religion for profit. Sickening, but true.

And did I just see Sleeper type that God "might be" real???? ;)

Good to see you, Sleeper.

Yes.

I have seen evidence in Him time and time again. From the look in my children's eyes to the beauty of a sunset to the compassion shown both of my dying parents.

He is real.

I believe God is real. And I will continue to do so until it is proven without any doubts that God is not real.

The fact that sleeper is still allowed to post proves that there is a God.

"the only one i ever really felt wasnt completely crooked was jehovah's witnesses...."

Really? I guess it depends on your perspective and personal experiences.

although i havent been to church in 20 years i do like things about that religion....they dont have paid ministers everyone has a regular job....they are very unified, meaning every kingdom hall preaches the same message. unlike some churches where the 22nd street baptists(insert any religion) dont believe the same thing as smith road baptists(insert any religion). I also like the fact that they are different and not popular which christ says in the bible should be the case with his believers. I also believe in several things they preach

the fact that they dont celebrate christmas because christ didnt die in december, or the fact that they dont believe christ died on a cross but rather a pole. also the fact that they go door to door to me is important. that being said i personally dont follow any religion. my mother is a witness is why i know so much about it.

There are many doctrinal issues that i have with Jehovah Witness'es with the 2 biggest being that they do not believe in the Trinity and that Jesus wasn't the Son the God just a servant of God.

yea i actually never have believed in the trinity...it never made sense to me. that god could send himself to earth to die. i like it better that he sent his son. i agree to disagree on this topic tho as i have been round and round in many conversations about it in my life and always felt that there is a god and he has a son name jesus and they are not the same person. but i respect others opinions on this and would never tell someone they are wrong

Jesus was born in December. Christmas is the celebration of Jesus's birth.

Easter is the celebration of His death and, more importantly, His Resurection.

yes i meant to say born..

according to my research he most likely was born in the fall...the date that christmas is currently celebrated was formerly a holiday celebrating the SUN and not the SON...

It wasn't until A.D. 440 that the church officially proclaimed December 25 as the birth of Christ. This was not based on any religious evidence but on a pagan feast. Saturnalia was a tradition inherited by the Roman pagans from an earlier Babylonian priesthood. December 25 was used as a celebration of the birthday of the sun god. It was observed near the winter solstice.

Until theres solid proof...ill continue to highly doubt it.

And I mean proof proof, not some bullshit story a religious fanatic fabricates.

This isn't the other place! Politics forum is strictly for politics. I made the mistake of trying to submit a religious topic in the Politics forum for "approval", to only be told days later, after I asked about it, that it should have been placed in Serious Business.

Also worth noting that Mithra, also considered a sun god, was allegedly born on December 25th.

The date was chosen for Christmas out of syncretism.
