Great move to get Hall on the field more and adds versatility to an otherwise weak WR core.

Plus, its probably going to be the Rod Smith show after the first couple games. He is going to be a very good one.

Yeah but it takes away an effective RB from a depleted backfield too. Wonder how quick he'll be able to make the adjustment at WR?

Another big recruiting loss for next season: Pittman, the stud DL, has chosen MSU.

Ohio State is going to have to either give the reigns to Fickell or bring in a big name coach if they want to get in on the top talent that Ohio is producing for 2012.

That's not going to happen until Fickell coaches his first game. He is an unknown commodity at this point. Ohio State is going to keep its options open until they see something.

We can whine and moan all we want, but recruiting losses are going to happen. Nothing Fickell or Ohio State can do really. Kids aren't sure what sanctions are headed our way. This is what happens when you break ncaa rules

If OSU decides to go forward and hires a name coach (Meyer, Stoops) I'm betting you'd see some of these verbals switched before signing day. Your points are obvious, but hiring the right coach can counter much of that negativity. Not that the buffoons on the Board of Trustees or Gene Smith would know that.

Lol sure, hiring Meyer would help a little, but its not realistic. Spring ball is already over with. The year is in full swing. You can't go a different direction now. Plus
Stoops and Meyer are surely wanting to wait and see what happens.

They had to get somebody in there and of the people left, Fickell was the only real option.

I don't see Fickell as the answer at this point in his career. He's quiet and intense, which is fine, but I'm not sure of the charisma factor in being able to sell kids and their parents on OSU. JT was excellent at charming parents as well as the kids he was after. There just aren't a lot of coaches who have that going for them, and it's such an important part of the job.

It would be great if he'd prove me and a lot of others wrong, and show that he's ready for prime time in all ways. I'd gladly eat crow if that happened. I just don't expect to need by knife and fork when all is said and done... :)

He needs to go to a MAC school and get a little more experience. Ohio State should never be somebody's first head coaching job

RB is arguably the deepest position on the team. Berry and Smith are more than capable of running the ball effectively.

This coming season should not be the measuring stick by which any coach at the helm should be measured. There will be a lot of emotion and effort from the players (or they could be flat all season but I feel the former). Recruiting will be stagnant with nothing to base anything on. Play calling and execution you can pin to the coach and you can possibly glean a bit of information from during lame duck status but with a new QB and emotional/flat performance I'm not sure how much. Fickell has an opportunity, but I have reservations about what criteria he should be judged on this coming season.

I also don't think OSU will swing for the fences on their next hire, I think they should bring in a proven commodity, but I think they'll try to catch lightning in a bottle like they did going IAA in Tressel.

I'm losing confidence in Kalis fulfilling his commitment on signing day. Supposedly, he will be visiting UM this weekend instead of attending the camp at OSU. He is also good buddies with UM commit Tom Strobel. If he is still there on NSD, I'll be surprised.

And Kalis has officially decommitted. Still a lot of time before NSD to get him back.

Well, no kidding. I mean, he did just decommit.

A lot may change in the OSU program before February '12, especially the likelihood of a new head coach.

I guess to me there is a difference between a kid second guessing and kid that really does not want to go there. He seems like the latter. That was my point. But a coaching change could sway him back if it's the right guy.

He's second guessing. If he didn't want to go there he wouldn't have ever committed, then decided to stick to it after talking to fickell. But he's free to do whatever he wants. Hope he makes the best decision for himself.

Lol at web knowing exactly what he was thinking from reading a UM blog though.

Won't be the last recruit osu loses. But osu will be just fine. Our recruits the last few years have been wayyyy ahead of everyone else in the big ten. A couple down years won't change that.

LOL at mid putting words in my mouth. I said it seems that way. And yes I got that from reading. GASP! I formed an opinion! And I didn't realize UM blogs were the only one covering this. :rolleyes:

If true. Wish him the best. It's gotta be hard not knowing and having other coaches act like they know. When they are no more in the know than webfire. The ncaa will punish osu an extra year no matter what bc of their late review

I think after August OSU recruiting will turn back around. Pretty obvious Strobel is in Kalis's ear about UM. I don't expect the penaltys to be as bad as the media is making it sound to all these recruits. Either OSU will win a lot this year and turn recruiting around that way or they will be getting a new HC and Urban or who ever will flip the class around real quick. Time cannot go fast enough.

As far as Dunn goes, we will see. Those rumors have been there for awhile.
