I would put it at 5% chance that colt plays well, we don't get injuries and we go 9-7 or 10-6 and we make the playoffs. I think we have a decent defense that may actually turn out to be good. We also have a decent running game. So i'd say there is a chance.
I agree with this. Injuries are the biggest thing. Moore, Hardesty, D. Jackson, and Fujita have to stay healthy for this team to win.

I like to see undrafted free agents do well, especially a position of need.

Last year, we were a few plays away each game of winning. We lost a few, but brought in a good amount and switched to an offense that actually suits our talent. Defensively we didn't lose anything besides Rogers, and even then we filled him with a pretty good rookie in Taylor. If colt plays well, we will be in the hunt. You want a friendly wager on this one there br;)

Browns Backup QB Jarrett Brown is 'Wowing' Fans and Coaches

Wednesday, August 10, 2011
By Daniel Wolf
Senior Writer

The Cleveland Browns are set at the starting quarterback position with Colt McCoy and backup spot with veteran Seneca Wallace for the 2011 season.

Looking back at the 2011 NFL Draft, many in both the national and local media predicted the Browns would draft a young, development quarterback project to become their No. 3 passer on their 2011 NFL roster.

The team didn't select a quarterback in the later rounds of the draft mainly due to the fact they had already found their developmental quarterback right after the 2010 regular season ended.

Back on January 10, the Browns signed quarterback Jarrett Brown. Brown signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent last year and spent much of the year on the practice squad, but was cut.

A former one-year starter with the West Virginia Mountaineers in 2009, Brown threw for over 2,100 yards, completed 63 percent of his passes and threw 11 touchdowns to nine interceptions. He also ran for over 450 yards and six touchdowns in his senior season.

Going rather unnoticed prior to the 2010 draft, Brown's arm caught my eye while watching him at the 2010 NFL Combine. He easily had the biggest cannon of all the other quarterbacks who were throwing at Lucas Oil Field in Indianapolis.

Sadly, the 6'3", 224-pound quarterback didn't get drafted or get a fair shot with the 49ers, so in came Browns general manager Tom Heckert—who swooped in and signed Brown—since he was familiar with Brown and his abilities

"He was a guy that Tom and I were familiar with," Head Coach Pat Shumur said in a press conference Wednesday.

Shurmur specifically, has been excited to see Brown's arm and talent while taking reps with the third-team offense during camp practices.

"He’s really been fun to work with. I’ve seen him improve," Shurmur said. "There’s something natural about what he does. You take that natural ability and put it to the scheme."

Brown's ability doesn't only consist of natural talent, as Shurmur states, but he the ability to make plays happen when plays break down.

"It’s very rare that the quarterback can just drop back and throw," Shumur said. "There’s always some kind of movement in the pocket or you get flushed. He’s displayed an ability now when he’s out there improvising that he can make a play."

It was previously rumored (probably via Twitter or somewhere online) the Browns were considering having only two quarterbacks on their roster going into the 2011 regular season—since wide receiver Josh Cribbs, a former quarterback at Kent State, could act as the third stringer in worst case scenarios. Shurmur put that rumor to bed.

"You like to have your starter. You’d like to have a legitimate backup. Then you always want a guy around that you’re developing," Shumur said. "You’d like to have a developmental guy. Although we didn’t draft one this year, we kind of knew all along that [Brown] had some skill.

"He’s got a big arm and he’s tall and can see. He’s got athletic ability."

Brown seems to have found a home in Cleveland. His arm is "wowing" crowds at Browns practices every day and he will get his chance to "wow" fans even more in the coming preseason games.

Moore is going to be huge out of the slot with Watson also in there. Those two together will give defenses fit, as no one can really cover Moore being 6'6". I like alot of what I am hearing, strong Oline, Dline, Cocky secondary. Big problems are LB depth and WR. Running back sounds to be serviceable.

jut proves to Miyagi that keeping Mangini around last year was a waste and actually put us behind a full year. To not talk to a qb because " you didnt draft him" or not giving him the game plan till wed just goes to show we should not have waited

Glad to see the browns missed the boat on a matthews boy for a second time. Though I didn't think he would be drafted as high as he was. Glad to see Jordan get some love, but throw me in the I'll believe when I see from him. Say with Moore which I know is becoming a fan favorite. Until Moore proves he can play longer than half a game without getting hurt I'm not counting on him.

Some updates from todays practice...

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/rapid-reports/team/CLE

12 minutes ago - by Marty Gitlin - McCoy outplaying Wallace
Those still complaining QB Seneca Wallace should be competing with Colt McCoy for the starting job aren't paying attention. McCoy is clearly performing better despite Wallace's experience in the West Coast offense. Browns RapidReports

27 minutes ago - by Marty Gitlin - Watson may not be suited for West Coast offense
All three prominent TEs have looked good in camp, but one wonders how the plodding Benjamin Watson will fare in the new West Coast offense. The more mobile Evan Moore and rookie Jordan Cameron could prove more effective. Browns RapidReports

59 minutes ago - by Marty Gitlin - Mitchell returns to practice
DE Jayme Mitchell (knee strain) has returned to practice. It would seem he has no competition for the starting job. Marcus Benard, who has been asked to lose weight, will almost certainly be relegated to the role of situational pass rusher. Browns RapidReports

Aug. 11, 2011 9:29 a.m. - by Marty Gitlin - Young DBs making their mark
The Browns are encouraged by the performances of their young DBs. Ball-hawking CB James Dockery and S Buster Skrine have been particularly impressive. Skrine has provided blanket coverage on nearly every play and could earn time in nickel or dime packages. Browns RapidReports

Aug. 11, 2011 9:12 a.m. - by Marty Gitlin - Starters will play one quarter
The first team will play the first quarter Saturday against the Packers. The coaches will get three quarters to evaluate hopefuls. The starters are expected to receive more reps than usual in the middle two preseason games. Browns RapidReports

Aug. 11, 2011 9:10 a.m. - by John Oehser - Gocong missing practice but likely to play
The stationary bike brigade numbers a season-low two: OLB Chris Gocong (stinger) and WR Mohamed Massaquoi (foot). RB Montario Hardesty (knee) is working with a trainer. Only Gocong is a possibility to play in the preseason opener Saturday. Browns RapidReports

"Plodding?" Didn't Watson chase down Champ Bailey?

He sure did. Not sure what the writer is seeing. Though to be fair it was a few years ago when Watson did that.

So what exactly is the deal with Hardesty? He claims that he's doing fine yet his lazy ass is never on the practice field. Should we expect to see him this preseason or is he too busy painting his nails that day?

I'd say expect him in the 3rd preseason game. Shurmur has said that they see him as a weapon and will bring him along extremely cautiously. From everything I've read, Hardesty WANTS out there and feels he's "ready to go"....it's the coaching staff that is holding him back.

Matt Roth to the Jags which begs the question, with the "players out" versus "players in" this year (if things stay static), shouldn't the Browns be getting a crapton of compensatory picks in the 2012 draft?

And the medical staff. Doesnt matter though. Guy is made of glass. I expect him to be on the IR by the 3rd game of the season.

The good teams find gold in late round draft picks and rooke FA's. Sounds like the Browns got a couple good ones in Skrine and Dockery.
