I looked it up, and Saban and Brown are the 2 highest paid coaches at 5.9 and 5.8 after all compensation (bonuses and what not). According to John Clay of ESPN, the 9ers were going to be less than Michigan, which means Michigan was prepared to make Harbaugh the 1,2,or 3 highest paid coach in College Football. Rich Rodriguez came in the top 15 at 2.5. Les Miles came in at 3.9. So, will Michigan be willing to pay Les almost 2 million more a year than LSU? To me, that'd be hard to say no to, especially it being your alma mater.
Brandon has already made it clear that Michigan is willing to pay and will not be middle of the road on the pay scale anymore. They are more than willing to pay fair market share, and maybe slightly above for the right candidate.

5.2 was the number for Jim. I doubt they go quite that high for Miles though, but I bet it's near 5.bigkahuna;629823 wrote:I heard on ESPN this morning that the 49ers offered Jim LESS than Michigan was prepared to offer him!

It's going to have close to the same to lure him away from what he's got, especially since he makes almost 4 now.

I don't think it's going to be about the money. It's whether he wants to coach at Michigan or not.

Hearing some grumblings that Les's agent is asking LSU for an extension. If he gets it, he stays. If he doesn't, he goes to Michigan.

Michigan wouldn't be staring option number three in the face again had they not botched the last go around.
I don't know why LSU wouldn't extend his contract, he has won despite the sometimes questionable method.

Who was option number 2 last time?
If I remember correctly, after Carr retired...
1. Les Miles
2???
3. Rich Rodriguez

UM wanted Greg Schiano and he flat out declined.

Probably a good thing for UM Schiano declined. He has seemed to have struggled since losing a senior laden class (I think). His ship has sailed it appears. He should have taken the bait no doubt.

Schiano would have been fine at UM its tough to get a program going at Rutgers much less maintain it....

I'm doubting Les Miles is coming. Sounds like Jon Gruden is interviewing.

Although one of the Rival mods, who is usually as reliable as can be, says he thinks it will be Miles and expects we'll know by Monday. Man I hope so.

Me too. Since Jim's announcement, I've literally been checking this site to see the latest that you've heard as well as ESPN and any Blogs I can find to figure out what's going on.
Probably because of the timing, but I don't remember being this anxious when Carr retired and we were looking for Rich Rodriguez.

From Joe Schad's twitter - Michigan has expressed desire to interview Les Miles; expected to happen, sources say.

Their seems to be a feeling of desperation. I think it is because we are hiring a coach after a failure and some very bad football years. The wrong hire here could put the program in a state similar to that of Notre Dame.bigkahuna;630274 wrote: Probably because of the timing, but I don't remember being this anxious when Carr retired and we were looking for Rich Rodriguez.
That is the sole reason I do not want Brady Hoke. I think he would be a great coach if he were succeeding a retiring coach, like Carr or Bo. But I don't think he has the firepower to come in and save this year's class, and that would hurt us for a while. Not to mention we would be switching back to pro-style offense, and we would see kids transferring out. With Miles, he can utilize what we have and make the transition so much easier.

That's the article I read on ESPN stating the same thing.

Funny how Schiano used to be the "sexy-hire" guy who all the interviews. His stock has hit rock bottom now. He really overestimated himself haha. Ray Rice and Brian Leonard aren't walking through that door

When he said where he was from, he said "Lloyd Carr's University of Michigan."

Here is an interesting read from the last coaching search. Pretty much supports the theory of Carr sabotaging Miles' return to Ann Arbor. Even mentions Brandon defending accusations that he helped Lloyd do so.
