Great pitcher, even greater American taking 3 years out of his prime to fight in the war. Still one of the greatest fastballs of all time.

RIP Rapid Robert

Rest in Peace Big Guy.

I still remember the stories from my Dad and Grandfather of seeing him pitch live.

I got that dude's autograph in Florida one time. That was when I cared about baseball so it was really cool.

One of the best big arms of the 40's, a proud young man who wanted to serve his country, and a prouder older man who was happy with what he did! He WILL be missed, may he rest in peace!

My favorite pitcher of all time. I have his biography and my Aunt got it autographed for me. I wore #19 in high school because of Bob Feller and I was bummed out when it was taken in college. Its crazy to think just a few years ago he was still pitching at the Indians fantasy camps and reports said he was still getting it up around 80 despite being in his 80's.

Great American. Signed up for the military the day after Pearl Harbor thereby giving up three seasons in his prime. How many of todays overpaid, selfish, and spoiled athletes would do that?

Maybe just a handful. Pat Tillman comes to mind.

There are some athletes at the respective military academies that turned down D1 scholarships at other Universities that may have afforded them the ability to turn pro after college but your point is very valid.

Definitely one of the greatest baseball players of all time.

His #'s are ridiculous, especially considering he missed almost 4 total seasons.

Not only a Cleveland sports icon, but a MLB icon as well.

Said he wanted to live long enough to see the Indians win a World Series... They came close a few times, but were never able to deliver for him.

He autographed a ball for me when I was 11. He was the original "bulldog" pitcher. Tough as nails.

I thought you left a week to grow up.... You truly are a piece of shit. Not only was he a great baseball player, but he signed up to serve his country in WWII immediately after pearl harbor. yeah, sounds like a POS to me /sarcasm.

Yea...he's such a good man that he said Jackie Robinson couldn't hit his fastball simply because he was black and called Lou Gehrig's speech "horseshit" because Gehrig wasn't the luckiest man on earth,Feller himself was

Ty/Gibby, you truly are a POS. A great American has passed away, and you have to make up crap about him. He volunteered to fight for your freedom. The same freedom that you use to insult him.

Sad news. I got his autograph sometime in the 90's at a local car dealership.

I take it he was a republican. If Gibby hates him that just about has to be the case.
