And that standard is, if you are a damn good player, and you qualify through the NCAA Clearinghouse, you're in! Already had this discussion with an OSU admissions employee. So I'm saying if you have a 17 ACT and I believe a 2.5 GPA and you're a 4/5 star recruit, you go to the front of the mailing list of being accepted at OSU.

Now, if you are a 23 ACT with a 3.8 GPA and you are middle class and just want to attend OSU to go to school, you better find a map to OSU Newark for a year or two.

Completely unfair? Probably, but so is life. This goes on at every major institution in the US.

Williams was a 4 star recruit, had a decent GPA (2.9ish), and had to buckle down to get the 24 or 25 (one of the two, can't remember exactly). I wonder why that was in his case.

I don't want to say there is a certain number, but Tressel likely gets a certain number of exemptions. Whether it's 5 or 10 or 20 I don't know, but yes, there are some guys that are turned away. But more often than not, exemptions are made.

I know someone who tutors athletes, and I guarantee that these students whom I won't name are not meeting OSU admission standards.

I believe this is true. I think that he does get a certain number that he can push through admissions every year. I remember when the Notre Dame job was open last year and it was rumored that Stoops was going to take the job that one of the sticking points was that he wanted five admissions exemptions a year and the school said no. I have a feeling that at most schools that have admissions standards higher than the NCAA minimums do allow a few students who don't meet the school's requirements to be allowed in anyway. Every year there are student who will be admitted over "more academically deserving" applicants because they are a minority, international student, musician, athlete, etc.

And let's be honest, college admissions is about more than grades and test scores anyway. That's why you write an essay and why they want to know about your extra curricular's. Schools want well rounded students, not just smart students.

C'mon man you didn't believe that when you wrote it did you? If you are 3.6+ and get 27+ on the ACT you are on main campus slam dunk whether you couldn't spell CAT in as essay or did one single extra-curricular activity. I'm a college admissions administrator and the crap I see on this thread is laughable.

I would agree with if you have grades and test scores like that then you're right, you're a slam dunk. I know that things like ECA's and essays really only matter if you're on the bubble, and that's really who we're talking about here. We're not talking about the students who finish in the top 10% of their class and who have great ACT scores. We're talking about athletes who would be on the bubble of getting accepted if they weren't athletes (or other students who are on the bubble who will get accepted or rejected based on things like their other activities, abilities, and essay). And like I said earlier, it can depend on what type of admission process a school uses. The college I went to had minimum requirements for grades and test scores and if you met those minimums you were accepted, if you didn't then you were rejected, and there was no such thing as a wait list (I believe this is called rolling admissions). If a school doesn't use this think of system then of course the top students will get in on academics alone, but bubble students will get in based on other things.
