Ohio State was recruiting 4 Glenville players from this years team. Now indications are they wont be getting any of the four. As all four are having serious academic troubles!

I would wager that you have also had moderate-to-severe academic issues as well.

Not surprising. I commend Ted Ginn for what he does and the motive of his "Academy", however, it's not Glenville's fault, and really not the kids fault that they struggle academically.

Sure there are some that might not put forth the effort needed, but I would imagine the problems start at a very young age and these kids are just behind. I think a lot of the kids Ginn kind of rescues from the ghetto and provides a support base for them, but reality is that prior to many of them probably had other factors they faced that prevented them from getting the proper education.

Or OSU's or the Big Ten's standard, which I believe are higher than the NCAA's.

And I was going to say the same thing that if they're good enough to play at OSU but can't qualify academically then they'll end up in the SEC without a problem.

Yea, I hate it when people talk about OSU having tougher admission standards than the NCAA. Yes, they absolutely do, but that rarely applies to football or basketball players.

I doubt they are getting a pass. Ginn knows what it takes for these guys to be able to get into OSU, and I guarantee he does everything possible to have them ready academically. Sometimes it's hard to change a lifetime of underachievement in just a few short years.

I'm not so sure about that. It depends on what kind of acceptance policy OSU uses. Some schools use firm baselines and anyone who meets the requirements is automatically accepted and anyone who doesn't is automatically denied (I believe this is called rolling admissions, but I'm not sure, it's been 6 years since I applied to college). Other places have baselines that are more guidelines or recommendations as opposed to firm standards. If this is the type of system that OSU uses then it means that if you scored 23 or higher you generally get accepted or if you scored lower than you generally get rejected, but it's possible to get in for other reasons if you scored lower or to even get rejected of you scored higher. If this is the case then it's not just athletes who can get in with lower test scores, but you'll likely have great musicians, minorities, foreign students, etc. who receive the same type of exemption.

And I do believe that OSU's admission standards for athletes are higher than the NCAA clearinghouse requirements. We hear all the time about guys who go to MAC school who have Big Ten talents but couldn't qualify academically for OSU. And let's not forget about Darrell Clark who couldn't get into OSU because of academics but was accepted to Penn State. If both schools use the NCAA minimum as their standard then he would have been accepted both places.

Um, im pretty sure there was a 5* DB from Glenville who couldn't get into OSU last year, so he ended up going to WVU or the U. So yes, the tougher admissions DO apply to athletes as well.

That could be, I dont know. I could be thinking the U because of Sentreal Henderson. I just know the guy from Glenville last year didnt come to OSU because he couldnt get the grades and ended up going somewhere else. I know WVU was definitely one of the teams he was looking at. Im sure somebody on here can clarify.

I went to high school with Nathan Williams and I know he had to really bust his ass to get the ACT score he needed to get into OSU. He had to take it 3 or 4 times and attended ACT work shops and stuff like that.

So you're saying that if the #1 recruit in America has like a 2.8 GPA in high school and a 19 ACT Ohio State won't accept him?
