I'm not happy about Qatar either but if these stadiums look like they do in the video then it may be a great success. Granted RSA is having issues with the fees to maintain the stadiums after this past World Cup but I think the Emirate could handle the cost to maintain them after they are used in the cup.

I'm glad the U.S. didn't get it just because Clinton was there in the U.S. group. He thinks whenever he shows up for anything the people will bow at his feet. He needs to ride off in the sunset and never be heard from again.

They arent even keeping the stadiums. They are going to dismantle them and give them to other countries at the end of the tournament. Just more proof they paid their way to hosting this.

On a completely RELATED note: Zinadine Zidane got 15 million for his 3 month effort to push for Qatar. Bull. Shit.

worst decisions ever...Hasn't Russia been losing people, something like 150 million over the last 30 years, to other countries? Not to mention playing every game in 125 degree heat is going to destroy their endurance. I mean shit, we might actually see a death from the heat.

I don't mind the Russia selection, but the Qatar one is dumb as hell. They already showed the fore casted revenue if it was held in the US and it was massive, yet they go with Qatar that needs 9 of the 12 stadiums built from the ground up.

Fucking stupid.

I was thinking the exact thing. I don't think the most talented team will win the 2022 world cup.

Espn said that Qatar promised to have air condition in every stadium.

How much cooler can AC help with an outdoor stadium while its 130 degrees? It is hard to believe it really is going to make that much of a difference.

They wont have AC in the training sessions though.

Qatar was because Sepp Blatter wants his Nobel Peace Prize. They bought the World Cup, plain and simple.

15 Million to a former French player just to put in a good word for 3 months. I cant imagine what the voters received....sheesh.

Wow all the information after my post made me dislike this decision to hating it. FIFA is screwed up. How will letting a country buy the World Cup get you a nobel peace prize?

The Nobel Prize lost its credibility when Obama won it. So you can't be that surprsied if Blatter wins it.

what a terrible choice. could you imagine the state of connecticut itself being able to host a massive world wide event like the world cup? it'd be a disaster. so how the fuck will qatar be able to do it. at least if connecticut were to host it, you wouldn't have temperatures in the 120s

blistering heat? check. no soccer tradition? check. smaller than connecticut? check. no stadiums? check....here's your world cup, qatar

I mean, I get they want to bring the WC to the Middle East...and Iraq, Sauid Arabia, Afgan, etc arent options.....but Qatar??? Really!???!!

Iran would be my choice for a World Cup in the Middle East, but honestly, why even fuck with it? Stay the hell out of that area, as only bad things can result from a huge event being stationed there.

In a story on ESPN one of the columnists wrote that one of the biggest strikes against the U.S bid is the lack of government guarantees.
The big knock on the U.S. bid, according to a report filed by FIFA's inspectors who briefly toured the country in September, was a lack of government guarantees. FIFA is accustomed to getting the combination to the vault when it awards a country a World Cup. It makes far-reaching demands and takes financial and fiscal liberties. The bid evaluators weren't convinced they would get all of that in the U.S.
http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/news/_/id/5872089/us-world-cup-bid-swings-misses

At the very least it looks like the rest of the world at least is taking the Tea Party message seriously if Fifa operated under the assumption that the U.S government would not be a source of financial help to them when putting on the World Cup were it awarded here.

Qatar has some bad ass scenery. They have almost 12 years to put the stadiums together too, so I doubt it will be a huge problem, especially with the money they have to throw around. I think the way they got the bid was a joke, but I'm not sure it will end up being a total disaster.

Russia and Qatar are about the shittiest options possible for anyone who was actually planning on going to a WC though. The middle east in June isn't somewhere I want to be in person.

FIFA missed out on making a boatload of money.

I think that the US has the best business model, the existing stadiums, and the infrastructure to have the potential to put on the best tournament and maximize revenues

Qatar getting the WC is a fucking joke. I'm going to laugh my ass off the first time there is a report of someone getting arrested/stoned for being drunk in public or *gasp* engaging in homosexual conduct. FIFA is a fucking joke.
