There's no difference between playing in a title game and playing in a regular BCS bowl?

And you want people to take your opinions seriously? HA

So a team from 2006 with 1 loss and conference champions is the same as 2009 team with 1 loss and not conference champs? And they have the same players?

I think the Big East might regret this one in the long haul - will TCU have staying power? Take a look at Marshall when they bailed on the next-door MAC and promptly dove into football obscurity in the basement of mighty Conference USA.

The Big East is in big trouble right now. They can't worry about the future. If they don't add TCU and TCU remained in the Mtn West, we could see the Mtn West getting AQ status and the Big East becoming non-AQ.

The Big East had no leverage at all. Heck at first they didn't even want to allow TCU to join in all other sports (TCU said they wouldn't join if that was the case). We see who won that debate.

Fact is, the Big East was worried about the now. They'll worry about 5 years from now after they keep their AQ status. Oh and by the way, TCU will be fine as long as they have Gary Patterson. Comparing Marshall to TCU is kind of a joke IMO. Marshall's program was never at the level of TCU's and they never had the talent that TCU has had.

This is a good move for football, and maybe baseball for TCU to go as a whole.

Not sure how they'll stack up in everything else. I'm sure some of those teams up in New England though will enjoy the trip South for conference baseball games in late March/early April when things can be brutal up here. Same thing goes for basketball teams to escape those winter blues

USF, Louisville, Notre Dame, St. John's and Rutgers have pretty good baseball programs. Adding TCU to baseball takes it up a notch and adds further depth to the conference.

^^^^

Connecticut is on the rise as well, along with Pittsburgh. Most people think of the Big East as a weak baseball league, but it really isn't that horrible

jordo - bringing Villanova up from 1-AA to "round out" the Big East isn't going help their cause, is it? :) I wonder if the Big East is preparing a raid on the southern schools in C-USA to move up to 12 teams in football.

Interesting - this will be TCU's fourth conference since the breakup of the old Southwest Conference.

Didn't mean to compare Marshall to TCU in terms of the individual program level - TCU, at the moment, can play with anyone. Rather, it's an example of what can happen over the longer haul when a program tries to move up a level.

Never said they had the same players did I?

First, The 06 team had a loss to #10 Auburn and the 09 team had a loss to #1 Alabama.

The 06 team had lots of under-classmen and only 3 players get drafted into the NFL while the 09 team was heavily senior-laden and had 9 players drafted.

Pretty sure a "Florida" fan like yourself should be aware that he 09 edition was more talented.

I don't get why this is difficult for you, UC losing by 27 to Florida is no different than OSU losing to Florida by 27 3 years earlier. Actually OSU's loss should be more embarassing, They were number #1 from the preseason all the way to the Championship game, then got exposed. UC wasn't even ranked in the preseason last year.

The big east was in ZERO danger of losing their AQ status with or without TUC, where are you getting your information??? You're own perception?

With TCU they now have a whopping 17 basketball schools, and probably will gain an 18th when they grab another member to become the 10th football team. Do they tell 2 of the shittier basketball only schools to piss off, or just play with 18?

Its probably inevitable that Depaul will be shown the door at some point, I'd like to see a few others asked to leave too, The A10 could certainly take on a few Basketball only schools.

That message that the Big East (and every other current AQ conference) is safe is a relatively new one. Here's just one example, which is as recent as a year ago in which the talk was that after the evaluation period the BCS would comprise of 5 to 7 autobids.

"BCS guidelines allow for there to be as many as seven or as few as five automatic-bid conferences, so one league doesn't have to lose a bid for another to gain one."

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?page=roadtobcs/0910

The talk was ALWAYS that all conferences were being evaluated. Also, perhaps I just missed it for the last few years, but when did it become a 4-year evaluation period whose results wouldn't be enacted for an additional two years after the fact?

Who doesn't see what is really going on here? Is it just coincidence that as the AQ status continues to heat up and as there continues to be a push for government intervention that all the top schools in the one conference that is priming for AQ status suddenly bolt...to existing AQ conferences? Or in BYU's case, a nice big cushy deal from ESPN? The "cartel" isn't a bunch of dummies. They are protecting their interests by throwing a bone to the little ankle biters.

TCU is a very calculated move by the Big East to not only protect itself, but to throw some more grey into the whole evaluation process over the next couple years.

^^^ I think that there should be more scrutiny on the ACC, The BE outperformed them the last couple of years and no one mentioned how bad they were, The BE always seems to get the most attacks.

Funny thing, according to the previously posted SI article from April 2010, the Big Ten and ACC failed to meet the 1st category (average of highest ranked team), by being below both the MWC AND the WAC. All of the current AQ conferences were safe in the other two categories anyway. But apparently, that doesn't matter because they aren't going to ditch anyone who already has status (this season could boost the Big Ten past the WAC anyway...WOW...say that out loud a couple times).

That is quite the ancient article, and sure a lot has changed since then. Veeerrryy hard to find anything concrete on what direction the BCS is going with this, a lot of smoke and mirrors. The one thing you can take away from it is they have interests, and not once has it been mentioned that finding a consensus national champion is one of them.
