Towards the end of the year I saw him directing the players around like he was a 3 year starter....I think we will be fine, just hope we can put together a line that gives him some time to throw.

Directing players around is one thing, but when you are in the state semi final and you complete more passes to the defense then your own team you have problems.

Fair point Go Riders, but when you are in the State semi-final you think you would run the offense that got you that far......run first, pass second. They put the game in his hands when it should of been on that veteran o-line and the stable of Rb's..then burn them deep with Turner and Brenner. Like I said I get your point though.

We can argue back and forth on this all we want, but in reality Lichti went further than Hiller, Simmons. Werntz, and Bescanson in the playoffs.....kind of hard to dispute that. Just because he was young and inexperienced and yes made mistakes doesn't mean we should take away what he did accomplish with this team last season.

14 game season don't come around that often.

Well "he" did not accomplish anything on his own....you QB's are all alike...hahahaha. messing with you a bit. Pretty safe to say the Riders rode the defense last year and unless we see better offensive production from the entire Offense including the QB we will be doing that again this year. I am very cautiously optimistic about the 2012 offense. I would have felt better had our QB finished of weeks 10-14 a bit better. But in his and your defense we did play in the State Semis and that doesn't happen every year. No doubt we need to get better on offense from the players to the guys calling the plays imo.

Oh you LB dads crack me up :D

5knots, absolutely! Not trying to say we got that far because of him, but he is the QB of the team and yes qbs get too much credit and also get too much blame. Lol The defense won us a lot of games last year, that's what the previous qbs were missing, a stout defense ans a very good running game. The previous qbs were relied on to win games with their arms, while Kyle just has to manage the game and not turn the ball over.

Yep, if we had some lock down 'D's with Simmons.......look out. the new Kyle has a grand opportunity right in front of him. He has the support of a great family, a team and staff who believe in him, and a fan base that wants to see him succeed. I have no doubt he learned a lot last year. He did a great job for a soph and a newbie. Time to take the next step. gottta get stronger and faster and those are things nobody can teach you....that is up to you. Everything else will fall into place.

Did Werntz even start as a QB in any playoff game?

Well guys I'm not drinking the kool aid with you. The qb rating from the clear fork game on had to be low. The coaches benched the senior qb after wk 1 last year and looking back that may have been a little pre mature in doing. Kyles best week was week 2 after that he struggled every game. IMO if the coaches benched a senior last year for poor play after week one then anything is fair game. If we have somebody able to step up and play better than Kyle after week one he should be in line for the job. I want to know who is our back up qb for next year and I believe the job should not be for Kyle to lose but for Kyle to prove he deserves the job.

Old rider, I just named the past 4 qbs to prove a point....Kyle has gone further in the playoffs than all those guys ever did...the last Orrville QB to play in the final 4 was Justin Zwick.

Well...you mentioned the word playoffs and only Hiller, Simmons, and Bescanson fit that category recently..maybe should have worded it like.."compared to the last 4 Qb's at Orrville"..but who cares right?

Yea, Kyle kind of did it with smoke and mirrors last year. Hit big passes in the Wooster game and the 2nd Triway game, but a lot of misreads and bad passes in between the good ones.

Just think a year of experience under his belt will help.....a lot.

Wouldn't it be awesome if we get back to the final 4 and he has a monster game this time around? The story would write itself.

I think 2011 will be special. Not going to predict a state title or an undefeated reg. season (although I think both are possible).....just saying I think the pieces are there.

Yeah, I know everyone wants it...the funds just aren't there. I know they won't be bugging the community for a while with the all the new schools and multi-purpose facility. My original thought was that we would be the first school in wayne county to get it, but I may be wrong now.

We need Smucker's or another private donor to help out with the $700,000 upgrade.
