For the record, I wasn't hating on "gimmicky" offenses. If it works, more power to you.

However, there most definitely are "gimmicky" offenses. Again though, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

enigmaax;576466 wrote:"If cheating wasn't allowed" pretty well sums up your problem. It is the rest of the world, not you. Riiight. Anyway, I agree to an extent. The thing is, if you are a team who wants to contend for a national title, where is your BIGGEST challenge going to come from. If you were a very good independent being forced to join a conference, but you get to choose between the Big Ten and SEC (and your exclusive goal being to win the conference title), which conference would you choose?

In the Big Ten, if you manage to beat Ohio State you are probably sitting pretty. In the SEC, you might beat Florida but then you still have to beat LSU and Alabama...or maybe this year its Auburn...or if it was a few years ago it'd have been Georgia or Tennessee. You can say the conference is top heavy, but thats the point. Four programs have won titles in the BCS era and two others have finished undefeated or in the top 2 in the country. The Big Ten's national title hopes are a one trick pony. That is the difference.

We can talk for days about how the middle four teams match up or the bottom three teams, but the truth is that nobody gives a shit. It IS all about how tough it is at the top because that's where the challenge is.

LOL

You've been hoodwinked, enjoy mediocrity.

I remember Joe Pa making a comment about these offenses. He said something to the affect of "What's the big deal? We used to run a single wing back in the day, and it was the norm at that time. It's basically the same thing."

I've seen OSU come out in a pistol formation, is that "gimmicky?" When the single wing and wishbone offenses were prevelant, I wonder if they would have considered them gimicky at the time, or if they consider/considered a pro-I gimicky. I guarantee there was a time when I-back 2 WRs was considered a gimick offense.

In my opinion, something that is a gimick would be what we called the pull cat formation (Much like what Oregon does on PATs) or the A-11 Offense that came out 2-3 years ago. Things like that stretch the actual meaning of the rule book to its benefit, that to me is a gimick.

This.

Two losses to South Carolina and one each to Florida and LSU. I can't think of one win, let alone five.

I was bored this morning, so I did some research. Here are the records for every Big 10 Team vs. the SEC since 1998

Indiana 2-6 All vs. Kentucky

Illinois 0-1 vs. LSU

Iowa 3-1 W-SC LSU FLA. L-FLA

Michigan 6-1 W-2FLA, Bama, Auburn, Vandy, Arkansas L-Tennessee

Michigan State 1-1 W-FLA L-UGA

OSU 0-4 LSU, FLA, 2SC

Penn State 3-2 W-LSU, Kentucky, Tennessee L-Bama, Auburn

Minnesota 2-0 Bama, Arkansas

Northwestern 1-1 W-Vandy L-Auburn

Wisconsin 2-3 W-Tennessee, Bama L-Bama, UGA, Arkansas

So the Big 10 is 20-20 Since 1998 Including Regual Season and Bowl Games

Interesting notes
-Michigan and Minnesota have dominated the SEC (You're welcome)

-OSU-Come'on man

-Our record would be better if Kentucky didn't own Indiana in the Rivalry Game they have.

No need to thank me.
