Just sitting here thinking about some things...

Looking at the BCS Standings...
1 Oregon
2 Auburn
3 TCU
4 Boise
5 LSU
6 Stanford
7 Wisky
8 OSU
9 Ok. St.
10 Sparty

What happens if.....

Oregon loses to Zona
Auburn loses to Bama
Boise loses to Nevada

Where do you see each team falling and/or who would be your new top however many you want??

I was just throwing the possible upsets(IMO) this weekend. Obviously Wisky could lose too.

Why would LSU go? They are not even in their own title game. Oregon would drop, but stay ahead of Stanford as they beat them. Auburn would stay ahead of LSU, since they beat them head to head.
Title game would probably be Auburn vs. TCU as.....
Auburn would win the SEC and with it the recent appointed best conference title (best 1 loss team) would head to the title game with 1 loss and TCU would go as they would be unbeaten.
The rankings to me would be:

2. Auburn
3. LSU
4. Oregon
5. Stanford
6. Wisconsin
7. Boise

I think Wisconsin would jump into it.

I'd be surprised if it were not TCU vs Wisconsin/Auburn

Remember how LSU went from like #7 to #2 back when they played OSU....they passed up teams that did not lose if I recall. The BCS will get what they want.

You're thinking is rational and probably the way things should pan out given the scenario, but losing late has inflicted far more damage than losing early for a long time. Plus, this whole Cam thing I think has voters looking for a reason to pop them out of the game to save face should the allegations be true. I don't know, seems hard to predict to me but yours seems to have the most logic behind it. I fear that's not how it would play out.

But, Auburn would then jump them after they would win the SEC Title. SEC Champs Auburn with 1 loss> LSU with 1 loss.

In 2001 Nebraska didn't win their division either and lost to Colorado 62-36 and they made it to the title

It's not rational.

I believe if Auburn loses this late they won't get enough opinion poll votes to have a high enough BCS ranking to be in the championship game.. That's just my opinion.

They only have one game.

LSU might get in over Auburn (LSU has to beat Arky first though) if AUB loses any of their next two games. It hurts to lose this late in the season. It doesnt matter if AUB beat LSU either. The way the BCS poll is, its always had teams that beat other teams behind the teams they beat.
And as for LSU not winning the SEC, its happened twice to where teams that didnt win their conference title went to the title game. Oklahoma in 03 and Neb in 01 I believe. I think Oregon and Boise would drop a good amount if they lose, more than Auburn.
Im not sold in LSU beating Ark this week though.

No way LSU makes it without playing for their conference championship.

The last team to was Nebraska in 2001 before the revamped (HEAVILY revamped) changes to BCS, and last team to not win conference title to make it was Oklahoma in 03-04 (lost to KSU in Big 12 title), again, before the revamped formula.

They talked about in 2007 the possibility of a team making the title game without playing for the conference championship, but the two teams who made it both won their conferences (OSU, LSU).


Again, to re-iterate, in no scenario does LSU make it to the title game.


Only in this scenario would LSU even have a chance:
1) Auburn loses to 'Bama and USCe
2) Boise loses
3) Oregon loses
4) Wisconsin loses
5) TCU loses


Only then would LSU make it, and TCU ain't losin to New Mexico.


edit: Cats, I just saw you said the same thing (about Nebraska and OU), but that was WAYYYYY before the current BCS algorithm.

I wouldn't be so sure. As others have stated, there has been teams to lose late in the season and still play in the title game and I think this year would be one of those years in which that could happen. 3 and 4 are non-AQ teams and the BCS does not want those teams in the title game.

Even with a loss, a 1-loss Auburn team that goes 12-1 and wins the SEC Conference will be the #1 1-loss title game candidate. All the talk of LSU, Wisconsin or Stanford ahead of them is for naught. Auburn can't get embarrassed today, but if they lose a close game, beat USC in the SEC-CG and a 1-loss team makes the title game, it will be Auburn over anyone else.

Too bad they are getting embarrased....if this keeps up they will fall behind OSU.
