If we can retain the current defensive front, linebackers and safety, we should go out hunting for a shut down corner and an effective corner to complete our D. Its been our Achilles heel all season watching Wright get torched for big play after big play to cost us games.

On the offensive side of the ball, we need wide receivers who are a threat to go deep and who have very VERY sure hands. I honestly do believe that with those key elements (and maybe another pure pass rusher) we would have the makings of a playoff team who would be dangerous.

Other than that, I'm not counting this year dead yet. We finally have a stretch of teams I feel confident we can beat, we win the next 4, and you go into 2 home games with Baltimore and Pittsburgh..and who knows... at 7-7 with 2 games left...*shrugs* We haven't given up yet!

If they can't get a great WR in the draft I'd take a good RB if I could get one. Whoever said Hillis' style won't last long is right. Thats why if they could get a good RB to split carries with Hillis, they could be even better running the ball than they already are, AND would probably have Hillis over the long haul.

Need a #1 WR, some added help in the secondary, an upgrade on the right side of the OL, and a pass rush.

WR and pass rush are probably the biggest needs, IMO. Just watching the Jags game, it's almost like our linemen are going in slow motion compared to the way the Jags were getting after the QB. When they brought pressure, they went hard. When we bring pressure, it's like they stand there and play paddy cake with the O-linemen for a few seconds and then try and get to the QB.

Anyone who says their first pick and/or first priority in free agency isn't a WR is crazy. You cannot run a solid offense without a good WR group.

I think it should be a priority, but I don't want them to reach for a WR pick. Haden might work out, but I really thought they reached for him last year.

I don't know, Haden has looked DARN good so far this year for a rookie CB.

I agree...i have been pleasantly surprised, but I also thought eric wright was going to be a good one...after his first year

I want them to. I don't care if there isn't a worthy WR in the first round, I still think they should take one w/ their first pick.

The only WR taken in the last 2 first rounds that hasn't really panned out was Darrius Heyward-bey. But come on, that is all Al Davis and his obsession with speed. Can't really assume the Browns will take someone like that.

But last year there were 2 WRs in the first round...Demaryius Thomas and Dez Bryant. Dez is lookin to be one of the better WRs in the entire NFL, and Thomas has shown potential in his rookie season.

In 2009, there were 6 WRs taken in the first round. Besides the aforementioned Heyward-Bey, I'd take all 5 of them on the Browns team. Hakeem Nicks, Percy Harvin, Kenny Britt, Jeremy Maclin, and Michael Crabtree.

Basically what I'm saying is, of all the positions taken in the first round of the NFL draft, WR seems like the one that seems to pan out the most. As long as Holmgren goes through the process of selecting the BEST possible choice and not obsessing over one particular attribute like speed or size (al davis cough cough), there should be a big time play making WR on the team next season.

Prolly AJ green

There are a number of recievers that could go in the 1st round. I don't see any of these guys being much of a reach.

Blackman from Ok St is also very good.

edit...I'm not sure he's a senior.


Also Michael Floyd From ND is moving up the draft boards. He's 6-3

I figure it will be AJ Green, but there are probably a couple of "nobodies" that will creep onto the scene...always is.

The Browns picked a good year for their most glaring weakness to be WR, I'll say that for sure.

If he's a redshirt soph, then he's definitely gonna be in the NFL draft.

If you're a 1st round WR, you don't stay in college.

That writer has him falling to the Browns. The other 4 writers have AJ Green going #3, #2, #2.

I think if Floyd stays healthy he will be perfect for the browns. Being an nd fan I've watched him a lot and he is the best jump ball receiver in college football. The big if is tho if he could stay healthy. I would rather have green tho. I think he is going to be an absolute stud in the NFL

As stated, Blackmon is a RS Soph who can came out. AJ Green is the top WR prospect. Julio Jones has underwhelmed since his great freshman season. Yes, he was banged up last year, but this year he is doing most of his damage vs the San Jose State's and Duke's of the world. In the big games, especially the two losses, he was missing. AJ Green has his best games in big games, Auburn comes to mind immediately.

I would have Green and Blackmon, then a drop to Jones. Other draft eligible prospects include Broyles from OU, Hankerson from Miami, Salas from Hawaii, Fuller from TAMU, and Floyd from ND.

The 2nd best receiver in the country to Green is not draft eligible and that would be Jeffery from South Carolina. If those top 3 come out this year, Jeffery is hands down the top prospect next season.

Very good analogy Tbone. I really think Green will be a top 5 pick. Unless we tank the rest of the season, I don't know if we'll have a shot at him.
