there is a reason they spent a 7th round pick...he has 27 points and is a minus 9, terrible. Enjoy watching a guy with tons a talent and no motivation to use it.

I'm ok with this move. He's actually played a lot better over the past few weeks.

He'll show flashes of brilliance and then take 10 games off. I don't expect the penguins to sign him after this season, but for what they paid he does have a lot of upside, even if he's old.

Chalk up another key player on the injury list........Orpik is out 4 weeks with a broken finger:

On the bright side, the Pens could have Kunitz, Letestu and Jeffrey back for tomorrow's game in Carolina.

You mean like last year when he had 3 post season points?

There's no guarantees with Kovalev, that's for sure but he provides a better option compared to what the Pens have on the ice right now. The past is the past but I'm sure Bylsma won't put up with Kovalev slacking off.

You mean the team he played against and beat last year in the playoffs? All the while only playing 4 games and scoring 3 points the entire post season before being knocked out by flyers.

I'm ok with giving up a 6th round pick at most for Kovalev. Think it's a great deal for the Pens. Obviously it's a deal that Shero doesn't pursue without all the injury issues this season.

God, this thread was actually tolerable for those couple of days that Rawdawg/CoA wasn't trolling.

I'm indifferent regarding the Kovalev move. We didn't give much so I have no issue. If it works out then great.

I thought they'd have to give up a higher draft pick, so really, it's a no lose situation for the Pens. If Kovalev can produce for a couple of months, great. If not, it was a risk worth taking for a 6th or 7th round pick. It's not like he's going to be with the Pens next year. By the way, Shero says he's not necessarily done dealing yet.

By trolling you mean pointing out that you're excited over a guy who has the potential to produce but won't? I did say earlier he has a ton of upside and he'll usually show a game or two of brilliance and then take a couple weeks off. His numbers from last years playoffs and this years regular season show he's just there for the pay check. He was scratched last year in the playoffs when the Habs were doing really well and you think he'll be motivated to play for a penguins team that doesn't have malkin or crosby? Yeah enjoy Kovalev and keep drinking the kool-aid

I'm actually going to be able to watch a week day game (since I work nights), having the Flu is terrible right now.

CoA (oops RawDawg...don't want you to go crying and report me--again) What kool-aid am I drinking? All I'm saying is Kovalev is worth the risk considering the worst the Pens will give up is a 6th round pick. He's not going to be the Savior, but he can help during this rash of injuries that the Pens are going through. I'm glad the Pens didn't have to give up more for a rental player who wont be with them next year.

We all know you're a Pittsburgh hater who's enjoying the "slide", a slide that despite not having Crosby for nearly 2 months and without Malkin for the rest of the year, still has the Pens with the 2nd most points in the East and 4th in the playoff standings. Yes, they will probably drop further unless some of the injured bodies return--especially Crosby, but considering the situation, the Pens have done well during this period.

If Crosby wasn't out, I think they would put Kovalev on with Crosby, at least on the power play, to see if their talents would be a good match.

No way, Shero brought Neal in specifically to play with Sid in the near future. Kovalev is nothing more than a cheap rental player to plug some holes, anything at all that he contributes is an added bonus which everyone is hoping for. There isn't high expectations on Kovalev like there is for Neal.

BTW, Craig Adams wears the #27 sweater which is Kovey's old number, so he will wear #72.

Funny how neither one of them was around for the same amount of time and then all of a sudden they both reappear within minutes of each other.

3-1 Canes after 2 periods. Pens started slow and played a great second period to ge tback in the game. One thing that is clearly evident with the addition of Kovalev is the PP looks a lot better. He's setting guys up left and right, slowing the play down, showing great patience and skill.

I'm convinced that Matt Cooke can't even breathe on anyone with out the refs calling a penalty.

From the looks and sounds of it, there's a ton of Pittsburgh fans at this game.

Tough loss last night, Pittsburgh played well yet again but they just can't put the puck in the net right now.

Couple of promising things from last night. The PP looks a lot better with Kovalev out there, he was setting guys up all night and dictated the play. Neal looked good too, he's a physical guy and has a cannon shot. Surely they will start to score some goals, it has to turn at some point, especially when you're out shooting the opponent jus about every night.

Pens over Leafs 6-5 in a SO. Kovalev gets a goal in the 1st and then gets the only goal in the shootout. Pens get through hell week (5 games, 7 days) with a win. Kovie paid off tonight.
